2010 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Indus Silver

Bonnet catch not working.

This might seem stupid to you guys, but I can’t get my bonnet to close. The catch doesn’t seem to work all the time. The RAC man managed to close it and said it was just a simple problem and it would be ok now. It isn’t. Freelander 2 - 2010. Help!

Try greasing the catch and where it locks. Try screwing in the rubber stoppers on the bonnet a little if they are stopping it closing correctly.

What did the RAC man say was the problem ?

You need to find out what is actually wrong with the catch.
It could be a seized catch, seized cable, bent or broken catch ? Jules

2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Zermatt Silver

The only thing that solved the problem on my 09 , was to change the entire cable , the inner wasn’t returning after pulling it to open the bonnet. Over 9 years the original was either worn or corroded internally . In the meantime if you are having problems closing it , don’t bounce it , the plastic which attaches the front bumper and grill gets brittle with age and will crack if you slam the bonnet . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Good tip.
My black plastic slam panel has developed a crack by a screw hole, which wasn't there previously. I suspect this happened after the MOT tester slammed the bonnet. I just press it closed, so it wasn't me.

As the the OP's fault. It's likely the cable. Bowden cables don't last forever, they go rusty inside, which causes them to stick. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Ditto with mine. Common sense isn't very common.
