2013/91k miles/Freelander 2/diesel

I’ve been getting the warning light to top up for a few weeks, my mileage is consistent, about 15 miles a day, sometimes it seems to lose more than others. I’ve topped up about 3 litres over maybe 4 weeks.

I’ve taken it to a non Landrover mechanic, he’s had a look at it briefly (pic attached of what he saw) but I’m keen to know if anyone with specific experience can shed any light on what it might be and the damage price-wise to fix…

Can’t see the pic.

It's impossible to guess how much until the source of the leak is identified. It could be anything on the cooling system from a radiator cap, oil cooler, hose, radiator itself, head gasket etc. It needs a pressure test to locate the leak initially. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Is it the photo in your gallery if so can you advise if your vehicle is Diesel or Petrol

EGR Cooler most probably.
Had a leak on my old car (2012 MY) which I cured with a dose of bars leaks - was P/X ed shortly afterwards.
My current car (2014 MY) has started coming up with a low coolant warning every now and then, 111,000 miles - so I'm assuming the same problem. Probably wont go the bars leaks route this time though, as I intend keeping the car for a few years yet.

Cheers. They’ve told me that they hope it’s the gasket, if not it’s probs the cooler… which is £500 eve before labour 😱

Just so you know, there are 2 coolers; VIN after AH999999 have a different EGR cooler (LR057662) which is £450(inc VAT) from Island 4x4

The older one is LR001002
Lets hope its the gasket - unfortunately there is still a fair amount of labour in getting the EGR cooler and EGR valve off to replace the gasket.

Yeah, they’ve said it’s about 4hrs of labour even if it’s only the gasket. Cheers, I’ll check the link out
