England 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Santorini Black
What oil

My 2012 GS SD4 is due for the annual service and mot next week.

I have had it from new and only done almost 50k miles. In that time it has not used any engine oil apart from in the first 1,000 miles when it needed about 250ml to top up. Until recently it has been serviced by the main stealer but now I use a local independant LR specialist and they would normally use their preferred brand of oil but I have always asked them to use the LR specified oil which costs more than the garage's preferred brand. Is it worth paying the extra for the LR recommended oil or would the garage oil be just as good.

J

Thanks for all the replies and information. As it happened the LR indy garage used Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF-L 5W-30 which is the one I would have chosen.
