I am spending a few weeks with my Agronomist son who lives and works in Kenya and lives about 150 miles north of Nairobi. I thought I would report back on the Land Rover scene.
So far I have seen two FL2s, both with diplomatic plates, in Nairobi and a few Range Rovers also in Nairobi with diplomatic plates. I haven't seen a single New Defender. Out in the country I have seen a couple of FL1s and one or two original Defenders and that's about it. Everything else is wall to wall Toyota LandCruisers (I even have one on hire). My son has a Ford Ranger pickup which is really very impressive and quiet and on big chunky tyres.
I was talking to a local guy who said that 25 years ago it was LandRovers everywhere but it's amazing how they lost the market or perhaps just walked away from it. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Toyota, flooded the market back in the seventies/eighties,
massive incentives to buy new motors with the back up in maintenance centres,
IIRC a lot of the tourist companies were actually given motors to use and assess,
Not sure what it's like now as I've not been back for about 25 years.  DAVE.
