Welcome A-Plan Insurance!

Well it had to happen one day, we now have an insurance company as a sponsor Laughing

I've been approached by a multitude of insurance companies over the years requesting to advertise with us. However the same issues have always come up - there was not one insurer who can look after the needs of site members when it comes to modifications, accessories, value, etc.

Not any more Mr. Green

Having been approached by A-Plan it was clear they were not a usual "computer says no" insurance company and could cope with the wide variety of uses that site members put their vehicles to.

I met with Steve Marsh (an RRS owner, but be gentle!) and Henry Francis from A-Plan who explained the policies and the service they hope to offer us all.

They had to prove themselves, so with a policy up for renewal they impressed me with a great quote on my (modified) Mini, so I put my money where my mouth is and am now customer, and have been very impressed by the service and attitude throughout.

A-Plan are determined to offer the best overall value insurance: there are no administration fees on policy alterations, no duplicate document fees, no charges for winter tyre use.

There is a account manager for the site, no call centre to deal with and A-Plan offer some old fashioned service in an industry now known for the impersonal nature of a purchase no-one really wants to make!

Please make them feel welcome and let's see how many of our policies they can get Wink

A-Plan have been on DISCO3/4, RRSPORT and Defender2 for a few months and have done well, impressing with both price and service. You can check their forum sections on those forums for feedback:

Do let me have any feedback on your experiences of A-Plan, we are hoping this is to be a long term arrangement so all comments at this early stage will help improve things for the future Thumbs Up

Steve and his team there understand LRs Thumbs Up

Have just contacted A Plan for a quote - a bit disappoint with their response as they didn't seem to acknowledge being a Forum member made any difference. There quote wasn't any better than I already had and it was a like for like quote!

Ah well perhaps my existing insurer had given me a good renewal price and I was expecting to much of a reduction from others!

Still Grumpy as service and insurance have come within two days of one another Censored Big Cry

You need to contact the Thatcham office for their specialist car division.

Your local office will not know about the forum.

Just been on the phone and they were very helpful. Certainly knew about the forum. Got a quote based on my 2010 (facelift) TD4 with the assumption that I'd be doing some mods so put me with an insurer who covers any mod you like other than nitro which is fair enough. Came in at £430 fully comp which is way more than my usual no frills but it is a much better policy.

Question is is the ability to mod as I like worth the extra cash? Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

Who was yours with? I assume mine is more expensive because it was from a specialist insurer who allow for mods like window stickers, side vent changes etc without having to notify them. They are called Marker Study.

Others will obviously be cheaper but may not accept the mods people on her like to do. Certainly QuoteMeHappy told me I couldn't even keep my Freel2 sticker Sad Learned to drive in 2011.

Didn't go with A-Plan in the end as they would only match my existing quote for the same level of cover, so why change! Paid £238 with business miles included. The mod route isn't for me but each to their own, the extra cost for potentially modding a vehicle is the price you have to pay, for me it's extra fuel for more fun is the way to go - Thumbs Up

Yup, that's the choice I'll have to make. Learned to drive in 2011.

Quoted on line £161.00 for me and the wife which is about the usual price, not bothered with A plan. Now put my 18 year old son on this renewal and got it for £652.00.
I was quoted £2000+ with my existing insurer, funny I'm with the same company but through a broker for the £652.

I think it only fair to point out that had I asked for a bog standard policy A Plan would likely have given me a much better price. The argument made by them is that the policies are far more comprehensive than the cheapo ones which of course is hard to prove until you need them.

Interestingly I went online to see what changes I could make with my QuoteMeHappy policy and it turns out I can indeed display my Freel2 sticker. Strange when the same company said no not that long ago. Learned to drive in 2011.
