It’s maybe the micro switch in the handle. Have you tried pressing the unlock button twice ?

I think it's to do with how the remote is set up, there's a section in the handbook with the different handset locking and unlocking functions. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Also if the rubber seals are sticky, it might seem like the tailgate is still locked when really it just needs more force to open. I thought my latch had failed, heard it click but felt like it was still latched, didn't want to pull too hard because the handle isn't attached very well.

Talcum powder of silicone spray lube will fix that.

It's definitely the microswitch in the boot lid handle. Many items about this common problem on this site. Just change the microswitch and all will be well.

yep sounds very much like the problem I had - microswitch failure. Lots of aftermarket ones on amazon - about £15. Easy job to replace - just need to get the tailgate interior trim off without breaking the clips in the cold weather-I find they become brittle.

But the wiring to the number plate lights varied - check you buy the correct version Jules

Go to the PowerfukUK site or their Youtube channel and there is a video on how to remove and replace the tailgate switch. Easy job even if you take your time.

The boot is always locked, it's not like a door as it has no mechanical linkage to the handle, it's powered by electric.
The only thing that happens once the car is unlocked is the boot handle switch isn't ignored by the CJB (body control module), and powers the boot lock actuator to release the boot.
The boot button on the remote tells the CJB you want to open the boot, so it powers the lock actuator without needing to detect the boot switch has been pressed.
The remote boot open button also opens the boot if the car is locked, but the handle switch won't open it if it's locked.

I personally use the remote most of the time, as I find myself needing to get in the boot without needing the car open, and I don't like wearing out the door actuators unnecessarily. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

I had this problem along with a few others including one push window opening and closing after I fitted a new battery. My local independant LR garage fixed all of the problems by re-progamming the computer or some other dark art.
