Known good values?

Hi there, I have been a long time lurker here and have learned a lot! So I would like to give something back if possible.

Having bought a scan tool waaay more capable than I will ever need I wondered whether it might be useful to have a list of known good values from a fully working vehicle for people to compare their readings to when trying to diagnose things?

If there is any interest then drop a comment with what data/set you want and I will try to record some.

I would be very interested to know what the normal crank speed should be on a cold start for an 09 TD4. Also the reading for the oil temperature sensor, at cold mine reads over 200 Deg C. Fitted new sensor, no difference. Thanks 👍 Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.

My 2007 TD4 turned over at 900 to 950 rpm on the battery. A good starting car so only cranked for seconds before idling correctly.

It's cranking over at 900 RPM Shocked
Does it have no compression, or are you using a 24 Volt battery?
Normal cranking speed is about 250 to 300 RPM with a decent battery and starter.
Cranking 900 RPM just sounds wrong. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Would agree with Nodge, 900 rpm will be idle speed. Anything from 250 to 300rpm would be cranking speed. Just wanted to confirm that thanks.

Chips. Thanks for the oil temperature sensor reading. That's what I would have expected. Don't know why mine reads so high, I think it is over 200 when cold and climb's once engine is running. This is a replacement sensor as the original one gave the same reading's. Splashed out £180 for the new one only to find it doing the same.
I don't know what the sensor is supposed to do but considering the very high readings you would expect a code of some kind. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

@I Like Chips
Which tool do you use for reading oil temp?

I am asking because GAP IID tool is also giving wrong values for oil temp, depending on which section for app you enter...
Reported this, still no fix.
Maybe if more users report it, they will fix it. Whistle Laughing

Hi Alex
Have used an Autel AP200 which I no longer have and currently using the Icarsoft CR max. Both show the same reading's more or less.
Is there a way to check this with SDD. I have looked but could not find it.
Thanks 👍 Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Idle speed is 750 RPM, although it can be "tweak" using SDD in 5 RPM increments from 725 to 775 RPM if needed, to eliminate harmonic resonances in the exhaust, power unit mounts or whatever. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

I can read the Engine oil temperature in both the Gap IID and the AP200 tools. The later shows two values one in voltage and one as temperature

In the Gap IID I found it by opening the main menu >live values>select live values>complete list>PCM engine 14 diesel>engine oil temp

In the AP200 diagnosis>PCM control unit diagnosis>live data> engine oil temperature voltage and also engine oil temperature

I wonder what Gasmans' voltage values are
