Transmission CLUNK/THUD from rear

I hope this will help others and guide them in the right direction and save money too.
During the heat wave of last year, 2022, I started to get a very loud clunk/thud from the rear end of my FL2 2013 reg. with 97000miles. This would occur after waiting at traffic lights or in 'stop go' traffic situations. More often when the temps were higher.
My first thoughts were towards the HALDEX and oil problems. On checking it looked as though there already was an exchange unit fitted, maybe previous owner had tried to rectify similar problem.
Looking on a website, a supplier of modifications and parts for LandRovers, I found a link to a Technical Bulletin from LR, (LTB 00782v2 dated Sept 21 2015) for a software update, covering the same problem I had. It appeared, in one case, to have sorted the problem for somebody else. Searching around I managed to get a quote to install update from an independent of £97 inc vat, and, from a LR dealer of £500 plus vat!
I then made contact with a well informed and interested technician who suggested I check the battery, as follows, before I did anything else.
After vehicle has stood overnight, allowing all systems to run or sleep, take a volt reading of battery, anything from 12.22v to 12.9v is fine, I had 11.97v. With everything turned off, radio, fan etc., take a volt reading while starting vehicle, watch for lowest reading, anything below 10v could give you the transmission problem. My reading was 9.58V. Last check is to see charge volts. Mine was 14.30v.
New battery fitted 12v 85AH HSB110, same as the one on vehicle. Problem solved.

Good to know, thanks for taking the time to post.
Low battery on any modern car can cause any number of gremlins. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.
