My beloved 2011 SD4 HSE has just been written off and Im looking at replacing it with a 2013 spec model but I see that the facelift includes 2 variants of the audio/visual equipment. I have uploaded photos of each. Can anyone tell me the main differences between the two please. LR Freelander 2 2014 metropolis SD4 auto in Loire Blue.

This is the HSE spec (higher) audio spec. The other is only in the most basic FL2 specs.

If you search the forums for "sales brochures" you'll find them posted. You can find the relevant year and then specification of audio systems fitted.

But basically:

6 speakers = crap & not upgradeable.
11 speakers = great system & upgradeable to 17 if you put the effort in.
17 speakers = better than 11 speakers.

You can always add acoustic insulation & reduce background noise a lot. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Do we know if the subwoofer is the same unit across all models and years?
The sub in my 09MY SE is OK at low to middle sound levels, but I feel it would be lacking in the more powerful later audio systems, as its lacking dynamic response in mine at higher listening levels. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Some of the 17 speakers have dual drivers.

Personally I think the 11 speaker setup is very good. I haven't heard the 17 speaker system to compare.

No point having a top quality system & you still have noise from the car & outside. You really want to lower the background noise. Then by default you are actually improving the system. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
