Oxygen sensor no LR001459

hello folks 2010 HSE auto.
Fault showing up as oxygen sensor not working properly.
1, could this cause a vibration/rumble from time to time.?
2. How important is this and should i replace it ASAP.
If so, how difficult to change?
Engine/ autobox all seem to be running ok.
Help please Jim A

If the O2 sensor is giving a code, then it's outside the ECM's ability to compensate for age.
Replacement is the only cure, however it does depend on the exact code you're getting, as to what the issue is.
Yes diesels do have O2 sensors, it's all part of the emissions system. Thumbs Up 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Maybe not old diesels but the FL2 does.
See Page 1238 of freebie JLR manual, item no 8
And pages 1260,1261

It says a special tool is required - you cant use a socket because of the wire coming out of its top and sometimes the sensor is in a recess preventing a spanner from the side - doesnt look it from the pic though. Jules

I removed the plenum panel and the ECU to get at the O2 sensor. You will likely need heat to remove I did.

I cut the wire off so I could get a six sided long socket on it from above with a couple of extension bars. While you are there you may as well change the first Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor.

I know some have done it from below but I couldn't even after removing the pipework from the Turbo to the Intercooler.

It will make you curse.

Thank you all for the free and excellent advice.
Next query, would the faulty sensor affect the running of the car?
There does not seem any problems with starting, running etc.
Anyway, will rectify this soonest. Jim A

A garage will use an O2 sensor socket, which has a cutout designed to accommodate the sensor wiring.
Mine wasn't that tight, but with the other bodged stuff I found, it had probably been removed and not tightened properly.

Access to the O2 is either from below, or above, but it's tight without stripping out at least some of the vehicle.

I've ringed it in red in this picture, but as the head is removed, you can get an idea of what it looks like, and how far down the back of the engine it is.

As for the vibration, is it road speed or engine speed related. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Cylinder 2 is shiny because I glaze busted the bore before fitting a replacement piston. The piston in there had been mashed by a nut that a previous (I won't call him a mechanic Rolling with laughter ) had dropped into the intake. Big Cry

The piston looked like this.

latest-- vibration cured by replacing OS brake caliper.
Had cleared faults and no more showings of sensor fault.
Have tried again twice and today after a 25 mile run. Still no fault showing.
Good to drive without vibration/judder.
Will monitor fault weekly.
