So was it leaking injectors, or a bad electrical connection to the alternator? 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

I may have to review my decision to remove my 2 small fire extinguishers from my boot. I had not had cause to use them for many, many years.

It's a pre 2010 model so who knows the maintenance history, servicing an FL2 is a high price for an under £6k car. Regardless of the surmise that it was a fuel fire, once the fuel line melts the tank begins to empty, irrespective of how the fire started. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Dave, When I was younger working on Motor Controllers for Electric Forklifts etc. we had a term for this as well. We would call it an "Uncontrolled Thermal Event". You comment brought back a few memories. It is impressive what 48Volts at 1000Amps can do. (Note: it didn't happen very often) The damage was typically contained to the Motor Controller but under the cover it looked like the FL2 in the picture. Take care Paul |

Indeed, I was involved in the investigations of many thermal events (photographing evidence and electron micrography of residues) and it was often a case of experienced guess work than anything else, as you say after a decent “burn up” there is a awful bloody mess left behind!
