Apart from Philip having a hand in the design of his LR hearse
I hear the Queen was consulted by JLR, regarding the hearse for her. DAVE.

Dartman, you are way out of line. We in Scotland had to move very quickly in the tragic circumstances. Huge respect was given to our Queen all the way from Balmoral to Edinburgh. The name was overlooked in the hurry and was removed for the move from Holyrood to St Giles. I thought the whole thing was respectfully handled in Scotland. Some of the roadside tributes on the way down were extremely full of respect.
The JLR hearse belongs to the Royal Household and ,yes, the Queen had a big input to the building.
I am not a Scottish Nationalist but we did what had to be done extremlyy well.
Don,t wish to start an argument but i had to speak up for Scotland. Jim A

I lived in Scotland for over 40 years and I really can't believe with a bit of effort a UK manufactured hearse couldn't be found in a day within a 100 miles of Aberdeenshire, it was said that Operation Unicorn the Scottish code for arrangements for the Queen's death in Scotland was continuously updated, so what went wrong? Did someone not think or check on the hearses that the chosen funeral directors fleet contained a UK hearse, or if it once did they should have reported to the organising committee that they no longer had an appropriate vehicle my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

The Jaguar was not ready in time. As for Mercedes - The Queens' father's family name was Battenberg. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

No, the Queen's grandfather George V family name was Sax-Coburg-Gotha, changed during WW1 to Windsor, however that was over a hundred years ago and certainly not pertinent today. The whole hearse was made in Germany, no UK input at all except for the registration plates, there was a Jaguar hearse in Bathgate, West Lothian not that far away and another in Glasgow, possibly more. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Also the Jag is a one off . At a distance behind the main body of vehicles escorting the Merc was another group of vehicles , including a second hearse for backup in case hearse one was out of commission for any reason . Obviously the planners have the logistics to get anything anywhere by any means that they want , but the unique nature of the Royal Hearse mean that risk management rules out shipping it 500 or 600 miles . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

That actual hearse maybe a one off, however the basic design has been around for a few years, if the Queen had a hand in the design I suspect the basics have been in existence since the introduction of the new shape XJ and there are quite a few in service around the country built by Wilcox Limousines, there's also a Bentley version as well as other makes but not RR or USA versions. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I can't believe anyone gives a rat's what the make of hearse was. That's terribly parochial - last time I looked Mercedes made perfectly acceptable automobiles.

Imagine the outcry at the cost/waste/emissions/over-riding Scotland's plans if the London Jag had been relocated to Scotland for the transport. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

Would the queens jag hearse have a lower geared gearbox for when traveling long periods slowly so it doesn’t clog up on tick over

When you fly a C17 up to Scotland to pick up the coffin with The Princess Royal, I suspect transiting Jaguar hearse to Scotland is small beer my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I doubt if the hearse has a modified transmission as it needs to be driven at fairly normal speeds on the road, it certainly wasn't going that slow from Hyde Park to Windsor possibly 25 to 30 mph.
When I lived in Sunbury on Thames I met up with a Jaguar enthusiast, think he had an XK but he worked at Stratstone's in Egham as a mechanic, he said once every three months a local funeral director sent in his fleet, Majestic Major hearse, Limousine and a standard saloon, after the service was completed all three cars were taken up the Staines by pass to the Crooked Billet (RIP) for lunch then back to Egham at 120 mph to clear the cobwebs, he said thinking about it driving the hearse at 120mph surrounded by plate glass wasn't the wisest thing to do, as in the case of an accident he would have been chopped to pieces my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
