ANOTHER HALDEX QUESTION

Having problems with the "chatter chatter chatter" issue. Phoned Austin at Bell and he suggested remove fuse and give it a try. Still the same mainly when accelerating hard or starting off on steep incline in straight line. Land Rover International mag says low tread rear tyres can fool the haldex. Austin says no way. Any thoughts or ideas appreciated .

I think that they (Land Rover International Magazine) were referring to the Freelander 1 coupling system.

The Freelander 2 (Haldex) system is intelligent and is instructed to apply various degrees of front/rear lock up.

The Freelander 1 system is much more basic and largely depends on the wheel rotational speeds. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Pulling the Haldex fuse switches the unit off so that you only have front wheel drive and you should then be able to spin the front wheels easily on pulling away and have no skipping of the rear wheels during slow tight turns.
However its possible for the haldex to become jammed (usually due to lack of servicing) in which case the rear wheels will remain connected and skipping will continue, even when the fuse is pulled out. Jules

Another two possibilities. Either the splines have gone on the transfer box and you’ve only got front wheel drive, pulling the fuse keeps the Haldex disengaged and the transfer box and propshaft can freewheel (a bit) and the chattering stops.
Or SWMBO doesn’t like your driving and she’s giving you what for Laughing
