TOP RATE SERVICE

Just collected the fl2 from Coseley 4x4 independants. Do most of my own simple stuff and Toby understands this when i take it in for items i would rather leave to the experts. Mot passed no problems reported. I had recently been experiencing problems with the auto box thumping when hot when switching from reverse back to drive. Thought might be time at 10 years and 54000 miles for an oil change, but Toby suggested adaptations reset first as he had poor results when carrying this out. Anyway now running sweet as a nut and has also cured the slight hesitation when pulling away from scratch. First class service from this garage.

So what did he actually do? Change gearbox oil or not? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

UPDATE

Just back from caravan tour with the fl2 and Swift conqueror 565. Noticed a lot better fuel consumption result which i can only put down to the gearbox adaptions. Towing average up from 25mpg to 31mpg. Previous non towing mpg figure up from 29.5 to 34.5. Speaking with Toby at Coseley 4x4 he said he wasn,t supprised. That will do nicely, thank you very much. Smile

So what has he adapted or reset?

Assume your caravan is either small or very light, 22 mpg is my normal average
towing twin axle Swift, best about 25. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Glad I am not the only one getting 25mpg, was thinking I must be doing something wrong.

The so-called gearbox adaptations reset is actually a reset of the throttle sensors and memory. I believe the instructions are:-
1. Turn on ignition without starting the engine.
2. Throttle pedal to the floor and hold for 15 seconds
3. With the throttle pedal still fully depressed turn off the ignition.
4. Wait 2 minutes, then start engine and drive.
The systems will then relearn how you drive the car.

According to previous posts and my mechanic you have limited results without resets by computer. Not my thoughts but theirs..All i know is what i am seeing since the reset. I did try the diy reset a while ago following past posts on this forum and the ewok website with no noticable difference. As for the caravan it,s 1700 kg fully laden. Over the 85% match suggested by caravan club but still within towing limit for experienced caravanner. Waiting for the flood gates to open on this one. Each to their own opinion.

In the 4 years of owning my SD4 and towing either locally I’ve never reached anything more than 25 mpg around town or 22mpg towing a 1500 van locally or around Europe. I’d be interested in what they did exactly if they haven’t remapped yours. I can only dream of getting that kind of mpg.
