CV axle removal RH side

Hello,
I need a little advise. My 2014 TD4 (4WD) has a PTU bearing failure and I'm trying to get the PTU out for exchange/overhaul. I'm sticking with the removal of the cv axle. Is it necessary to lose the ball joint at the wishbone? I have losen already the steering ball joint, but there is still not enough space to get the axle all out.
The securing bolt of the axle is removed, so that's not the problem 😅 I'm not really sure if something stucks or not.
Maybe someone of you can give me a little help.
Thx in advance,
Werner

Recallig the times I have had to do this job the axle wouldn't come out of the back of the hub. Is that the problem?

it needs about a 1 metre length of steel (I use galvanised steel pipe) to lever the lower wishbone down. That allows the hub to move sufficiently to get the axle out of the hub splines.

Hope this helps MY11 SD4 SE Auto

Yes you need to drop the ball joint out of the hub to enable removal of the half shaft

Do yourself a favour and get one of these

Thanks for your replys! Thumbs Up
It ended in the removal of the lower control arm (according to the haynes manual - that info was given in another thread),
but finally I was able to get the axle and the PTU out.
Now I need a closer look whether the gears are damaged or, if not, a bearing/seal change will be possible.
Best way will be of course to buy a refurbished one from a specialist like bell f.e., but shipping from/to germany is approx. 140€ - only for one way Sad
