2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Santorini Black
My 08 Freelander 2

Had my car since Dec 19 now. Still happy with it, but constantly want to do things to change or fix it, so I will use this thread as a kind of log of what i have done. I wont necessarily put everything on in the order that I did it, but hopfully I will remember everything.

I'll start with a small thing, but such a difference. New center caps!

I have also replaced all the internal lights and side mirror down lights with LEDs for a cost of £19.

I had issues with leaking from the top break light as i'm aware many have. First fix was to get a replacement foam gasket from ebay. No fix. I then proceeded to get a thicker foam gasket from ebay. no fix. As good an excuse as any, next was a replacement light fitting. I went for a clear LED fitting, coming with a new foam seal. no fix.

Then my brother suggested I use some of his 3M helicopter tape (he uses it on his bike) as a tempory fix when I was going to Le Mans. no more leaks and looks the same as when i stuck it on. may not be perfect but it works and isnt too noticable.

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Santorini Black

After i had the car a while i decided to swap out the rear lights. Spotted a set of genuine LR LED rear lights on ebay for £200. Got a connector conversion kit from PowerfulUK, easy fitting.

Old on left, New on right

I had noticed some rust where the Boot handle had rubbed throught the paintwork. And the old grey handle had started to fade badly. So a purchase of a primed "facelift" handle and some Halfords paint and I got to work. This is the first time I had used car paint. Starting with the handle itself, seemed to go Ok (had to make a filler peice for a spare hole that the handle came with - no reversing camera for me). Then onto the boot itself, as seen in the photo below, not a great finish. But its covered fully, and thankfully hidden behind the new handle. Most terrifying part was drilling the extra holes to be able to bolt the wider handle into.
