Found my OBD2 recorder was still powered and recorded voltage all day
See pic below. You can see it dropping through the night Then trying to start Then the trickle charger connected

Is that the voltage supplied to the OBD2 socket ? Or is it data sent from somewhere else ? Jules

On the app it just shows it as OBS volts
So not sure exactly where it’s measured
Assumed it was showing battery voltage

It's likely showing battery voltage at the OBDII port. Has your flat battery issue started when the reader is left plugged in when the vehicle is off and locked? Or since a different modification. What is smart key?

Had the reader for a while now and usually only use it when towing fit AT temp

Put a ammeter on main cable to fuse box
Push 0.5A bonnet open car off
Open door /close , whine starts 8.5A for 30sec then click whine stops and drops to 6.3 A
60 secs drops to 5.5A
180 secs drops to 4A
200 secs drops to 3.2A
208 secs drops to 0.8A
240 secs drops to 0.5A and stays there

Just checked Down to zero after about 10 mins

The question is

If the car is locked how can the OBD2 reader record voltage until next morning?

As it wont connect when the car is off and says it had to have ignition on to connect

Is having the OBD2 connected stopping the car from shutting down and draining the battery?

My 2 cents is 'yes', OBDII port always has power. Only one way to find out....

Only seem to have troubles away Which is the only time I use the OBD2 to monitor AT temps etc

Update

Did some tests with car lock once and doubled locked

Locked with OBD2 App connected Goes to sleep and keeps pulling 1.9A
Removed the plug in unit and it fell to 0A after about 3mins

Same with it double locked. Looks like the unit is holding on to something and won’t let it power down
I’ll be ripping that out each time we get to our destination

My DS has the OBD Bluetooth dongle plugged in permanently, now I think about it there is a light on permanently.

Would be so upset if I came back to the airport, after paying a small fortune for parking to find a flat battery.
