Battery Light

Hi, have a 2007 TD4 which was stood still for a while. After starting the battery light came on, Have charged it with a Ctek charger to green but after stating about 20 secs in the battery light comes on again on the dash. When plugging in the charger it shows battery at level 3 again even after just a few mins of car running. Plenty of crank on the battery it seems. Any ideas?

That's what I was hoping, slightly worried it would be an alternator fault. if I turn on the lights and full fans the engine slows a bit as the alternator kicks in I think.

I made a comment down this thread. It might help narrowing down the problem.

An inexpensive voltmeter that plugs into the accessory socket in the centre console should tell you if your alternator is ok. From memory, the voltage on mine reads around 14.3 volts when driving.

more than likely the alternator, check with a volt meter to see if its charging with light on,if it is, do a search on here, there is info on the blue wire to alternator that causes the problem.if its not then you need a new alternator.

Also its worth checking and cleaning the engine-to chassis and chassis-to-battery earth connections.

On my other Landrover I had intermittent starting and poor battery charging issues - all cured by cleaning the engine to chassis earth. Jules
