Not a Freelander then

Report on BBC website of German police investigating reports of a Czech millionaire who has been posted on YouTube travelling at 417km/h (260mph) in Saxony-Anhalt in a Bugatti Chiron.
Driver says it was 04:50 on a Sunday morning, there was visibility along the whole stretch of road and “safety was a priority”.

Is this the one?

The closing speed on the other cars is incredible.

At 260 mph you are covering nearly 400ft every second. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Mental. A car pulling out to overtake as he's approaching at that speed would lead to carnage. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

How does the Bugatti go on corrugated roads. I reckon the Freelander is better! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

be interesting to see what laws he has supposedly broken. There are unlimited speed stretches of autobahn and so long as he stayed in one of those sections he wasnt breaking the speed limit. He had a spotter with him and slowed down (all be it marginally) when there were cars in the other lanes.

You can wipe out just as nastily at 100mph and cause as much carnage so what difference does going at 260mph make ?

is it irresponsible...yes
is it dangerous...yes
is it reckless.... depends on his driving skills, road conditions, vehicle condition etc etc
is it illegal... probably not

Supposedly for ‘moving at an inappropriate speed and in a manner that grossly violates the traffic code and is reckless’

Now that's phenomenal
I guess the Germans have far better roads than us,
as I wouldn't want to catch some of the tram lines (LGV ruts) we have in the south east, Shocked DAVE.

You would have some dipstick doing 65 hogging the outside lane in the UK.

yes they do. Its why Audis etc have rock hard suspension, which over here cause your teeth to rattle. Jules

Not only the south east, we have lorry tramlines ruts on most of our motorways here too.

Annoyingly it causes my FL2 to wander back and forth about the artificial camber quite badly and causes me to make continuous small corrections to the steering. Otherwise, on most other roads, my FL2 holds its course very well.

I thought the tram line effect may be the result of the low profile tyres on the 19inch rims? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

152L/100km at top speed & more for acceleration, with a 100L fuel tank it's going nowhere quickly! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Got to admit that is one very strait well surfaced road, and you can see a long way ahead.
At that speed you could pass anything but a petrol station.

In reality the police are going to have a fight on their hands, it doesn't look as if getting the best legal help that money can buy is going to be a problem - as the prosecutor would you waste public funds on a case that you are unlikely to win? Even if you do believe that the driver was in the wrong but no actual harm was done?
By all means make a song and dance to deter others from copying the stunt. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
