FIXED: Rear wiper issue (Not the usual issue with motor!)

Hi Folks,

My rear wiper motor only runs for 6 seconds and stops.... until you turn it off and on again. It doesn't go in to the parked position, it literally just stops wherever it is after 6 seconds.

I took it all apart and its like new.... probably a new motor that has been fitted by a prev owner to try fix it...

So, i bought a new motor anyway. Thinking it was an internal issue... fitted this new one and its exactly the same... turn it on either permanent or intermittent and it runs for 6 seconds and just stops.... until you turn it off and in again.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be up? Its as if the car is getting a false signal that the wiper motor is parked, when it isn't!

Been searching forum and can't find an equivalent issue anywhere!

Cheers,
R.

Sounds like the wiper is running on intermittent? If you’ve fitted a new motor, perhaps it’s the stalk?

Does anyone know if the rear wiper can be disabled to not work with front wipers on but still work through the on off switch. I.E. to prevent it coming on when the rear screen is covered in crap. I know you could always pull the fuse, but obviously no wiper then at all. Bet your all going to say dealer only job. Big Cry

You don't need it going forward. If you stick the car in reverse does it continue longer. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

So, it seems the 6 second thing is the motor blocking function, due to the CJB not seeing a park signal from the wiper motor.

This means:

1. Maybe my new wiper motor has same fault as last
2. Wiring issue
3. Fault with CJB (DRY JOINT or component?)

My rear wiper has to be switched on independently unless I have just the front wipers on and then put the car in reverse, in which case the rear wiper activates until I select drive or neutral

Spent the afternoon tracing wires and signals and found no issues. New relay fitted too. On diagnostics, car is showing a relay fault....

Now what i think it could be - and where id like some help - is that it transpires there is a different wiper motor for the later cars (Vin DH Onwards....) and i suspect the original wiper motor moght have been replaced with a brand new one intended for an earlier model, which doesnt give the same 'parked' signal as later cars!

Does anyone have any experience of the difference of the later motors? Its definitrly two early type motors i have and both have the same issue...

Thanks

Thanks, yes same info i had but no detail of differences. The workshop manual i have doesnt go as far as 2014 to recognise any differences either. If any kind souls with topix could help a guy out... 2014 Metropolis in Loire Blue

Thanks for sharing. This isnt a case of operator error, its that the CJB is entering blocking mode because it cant see a 'park' signal from the rear wiper motor. But, your note from the handbook does suggest there is more features on this latest model year (2014) which likely explains why it has a different wiper motor to earlier years. Hopefully this incorrect wiper motor is confirmed as the cause of my issues 2014 Metropolis in Loire Blue

Im very pleased to say ive solved it.

I managed to get a 2014 wiper motor, fitted it and it works perfectly.

The motors are different from VIN DH onwards, and whilst they look exactly the same - they are not! Probably a slightly different contact on the yellow disc inside the assembly.

Posting this in the hope that it helps someone else in the future with the sa.e issue as most rear wiper motors are advertised as being for 2007-14 which is incorrect.

The yellow labelled motor in the below pic is the correct one.
