2010 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Stornoway Grey

Washer bottle removal

Do not ask but somehow I have managed to put some used engine oil into the washer fluid reservoir. Haynes manual states to remove reservoir one needs to remove the front bumper, what a faff. Is this the only way?

As far as I can remember, it can’t be done without removing the bumper, which in itself isn’t that difficult, all things considered. Pretty sure Powerful UK & others have video of removal process online. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Oil floats. Can't you flush it out sticking a hose in there. First cold water, then hot water & a bit of detergent. Even if you have to do if for an hour it would be better than the other option. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Was thinking on similar lines. Luckily as oil floats it should , in theory, have not got near the pump. Will give it a try when the temperature rises a bit.

Me I would stick some detergent in then flush out with hose. Repeat a few times. or am I feckless.

If you have half a cup of oil. Fill to near the top with water & mop up most of the oil so it doesn't get over everything else.

At least you didn't put petrol in the diesel tank, or maybe I have spoken too soon.

There is a sieve which you can pull out of the water container to give clear access inside. A bit easier to clean. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Well seems to have worked. Removed headlamp to be able to get at the fluted fill pipe on top of the reservoir. Luckily the overflow tube sits on a raised bit of reservoir so any oil will collect there. Lots of hot water with washing up detergent poured into spout and the oil/water comes out of the overflow. Eventually after I think 5 lots of 2 litres no more oil apparent. Checked and is clearing screen with no streaks.

That was covered in oil so cleaned that also.

Had used an empty screen wash bottle to put in a small amount of used oil before going to the refuse centre. Somehow instead
of going to the refuse centre ended up back on a shelf in the garage. Did not take much notice until I saw it was rather thicker than screen wash usually is
