Licence? Insurance? Pah! who needs them eh?

Not this 80 odd years old chap it seems. He has been driving with neither since 1950 (when he was 12 years old).

Statistically it just goes to show one will have licence issues & insurance issues with a licence, so the current system is not working! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

My dad passed his driving test in the TA (as it was called then) in the 1960's....he learnt to drive and got his full license in a 4 wheel Fox armoured car, with something like 8 forward and 6 reverse gears. He was allowed on public roads straight away

You would be surprised by the number of people captured by ANPR cameras these days. You will not hear of them as the majority of motoring offences are dealt with by a single justice system and the press are not present to report.
The figures could be obtained by a freedom of information request through if anyone was that interested. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

I know that you can be warned by letter, even if your insurance company has a computer/database problem, and you pass an ANPR..

https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic36491.html?highlight=insurance

(I also know, from experience, it can take several years to sort out a 10p error from HRMC. The original 10p is not the problem, it is the automatic fines of several hundred pounds that keep reoccurring, even after they have accepted your explanation several times - and confirmed in writing.) - all these 'automatic systems are all a pain - unless they are managed by a human being - somewhere - FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Totally agree.

DVLA used to be a pain to deal with, but appear to have made improvements. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

When I did some volunteer driving for some children with special needs, I was allowed a 'grandads exemption' for a PSV license as long as I passed the compulsory medical and it was not paid work.
And before anyone mentions it, I am not that ancient. Whistle Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Over the last 16 years, I must have bought over 30 UK reg vehicles in the uk, taxed in the uk, and with the new keepers slip ( or new v5 ) in my name and (uk) address. I have driven them all to central france. I have left the UK from many different departure points including all the South cost ports and eurotunnel, via the Irish route, via Hull and Belgium. I have collected the cars from as far North as Glasgow.
I have NOT had any of these cars insured in the UK. They have all been insured via my French insurers ( until Brexit if course! ).
I have never had a letter or indication that I have been " captured" by an ANPR camera.
There is a map available if you chose to look at online, of all the fixed ANPR cameras. I did some years ago, as I couldn't believe that I had not been challenged over the insurance status of any of these cars. There were actually, not that many fixed ANPR cameras.
This leads me to believe that it's is no great surprise as to how many uninsured vehicles are running around the country. It is also no great surprise that the DVLA doesn't know the status of many of the cars I have exported. Although the correct procedures have been followed regarding exportation, and new " carte gris " issued in France, many are still shown as being registered to me at my UK address. That saga is another story for another day !

Took me 3 months to get the logbook on my series 3 updated after an engine swap. Sent it in Sept , confirmed by phone they have received it at the end of November - got it back (incomplete) end of December. I now need to go through the process again. Jules
