World instability is good for a "petro" state and an inflation pile on.

Dont think he will do a full invasion. The west won't fight a war, but they will supply Ukraine with all the latest weapons, and if he was foolish enough to fully invade, the danger is it could backfire and his forces could find themselves bogged down and then it starts to be expensive, pressure from his people with the high loss of life, and no easy way out. Much better to have all the western leaders keep coming over and sitting at the end of that long table.

High loss of life has never particularly bothered those at the top of the pile in Russia.

Thank you for your glorious sacrifice. Please send another family member as a replacement, to make amends for your son's death. Current driveway contents:

Apparently the translation of Putin's speech into English lost the tone and the aggression that was obviously present in Russian.
I'm sure there are those in Russia that believe even in nuclear war, the Russian empire would ultimately triumph and would be worth the cost. Jules

I’ll disagree with that . The first nuclear warhead used , and Russia ceases to exist . Even if he fires all 8000 warheads in his inventory at once his country and himself ceases to exist before the last one lands ..

There is no use to being a billionaire gangster despot if you have frazzled everything in sight .
You only have to look at the guy to see he personally feels very mortal . Every plastic surgery process to make him look younger. All the bare chested fishing and bear shooting macho pics . Sitting 25’ away from everyone , limited contact with a chosen inner circle .. He certainly doesn’t want to end up an old dead man like Gaddafi or Sadam . Firing a nuke would be his personal one way ticket to whatever Hell awaits him .

Much easier to wage a shooting war safe in the knowledge that NATO will do absolutely zero about saving the Ukraine , and wouldn’t get involved until a nuke was used if push comes to shove . He knows that he’ll never be held accountable in The Hague, so he’ll just do as he pleases . The best we can hope for is the Oligarchy getting ticked off with their operations being sanctioned and arranging his replacement . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Small point, but a very important one. It's Ukraine. Not "The Ukraine". The latter plays into the Russian narrative that it's simply a region of their former empire that needs to return to the fold, while "Ukraine" is a sovereign nation.

Boris Spunktrumpet Knobspangle Pepperpig Johnson also referred to "The Ukraine" earlier in the week. The forehead slaps in the House Of Commons were audible Laughing Current driveway contents:

Well for what it's worth I used to live next door to a family who always said that they came from "The Ukraine".

Nice hard working people, they had come over after the war and had been through some tough times but always said that the Russians were worse that the Germans. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I wonder how WW2 would have played out if we had had nuclear weapons in 1939? My guess would be that it would have made it easier for Hitler to take over Europe due to the threat of Armageddon and we would have done a deal to remain independent of the Reich in which case nuclear weapons are pretty pointless as they are to dangerous to use. At some point someone IS going to use a nuke. Maybe not who we are expecting, but I think that it will happen, problem is if you are losing there is a temptation for a last ditch effort and blow the consequences.

But maybe that's just me, if I am losing I AM going to take you with me at any cost.

I think that there may be a possibility that the military may not back Putin to the full when it comes to war, it will depend on losses and the effectiveness of the Russian hardware. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
