yet another problem, . . . .split hose ?

Had a rare spin out in the old HSE today, been running great for a few weeks which seems rare Rolling with laughter , todays problem is a very juddery ride, with the sound of wind blowing while driving in the lower gears which went as each gear was changed upwards, I am suspecting perhaps a split hose, something turbo related perhaps, can't help thinking the power is dipping when accelerating but if it was a split hose that would surely be enough, the juddering suggests 2 problems . . .any ideas old wise ones ? Bow down Bow down . . .

so, would a split hose or a knackered turbo cause a misfire type juddering as well as power loss and hissing like sid the snake ?

(intercooler pipe was changed a year or so back)

A split hose will cause a loss in power and quite likely a whistle as well. Not necessarily a lumpyness or misfire. A good check around the turbo and intercooler hoses should show up a problem of that nature.

(A screeching and whistling noise on Disco 2s was normally a warped exhaust manifold but not heard of that issue on Fl2s) Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

with the engine cool, I have now identified the fault, it is a split intercooler hose, its only been on 1½ years and covered 2000 miles, the problem seems to be the pulley at the bottom of the engine (aircon?) nudging forward and cutting the pipe like a bench saw . . . .I specifically had the lower engine mount changed to try to prevent this happening.

Any tips ? Best /strongest pipe to get ? Should the pipe be perhaps ' cable tied' forward towards the front grille to keep it out the way ?

Did you fit a genuine hose or an aftermarket one previously? i have seen aftermarket ones are often about 15/20mm too long, causing the aircon pulley to damage that lower hose. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. after market I believe, I see your point, but still feel the hose needs to be somehow propped away from the pulley be it genuine or cheap 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

If the lower mount has already been replaced then it shouldn’t be an issue. If you compare genuine with aftermarket hoses there can be quite a difference & as I said cutting off 15/20mm off the short end will allow the hose plenty of clearance (or just buy a genuine hose). (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. You only need this one, unless the small one is a bit dodgy as well!

got this problem fixed, just to reiterate, the car had a severe intermittent / hesitant / misfire engine feeling, no engine light or limp mode, intercooler pipe had a clear split in it, new genuine part fitted and problem now gone . . . Need a bit of advice regarding the hose replacement.

I have just replaced the hose connected to the throttle housing which took the best part of 3 hours not the 15 minutes stated by others who have replaced the same hose.
I purchased a Brit Part from a local Indie, which looked similar until you took a closer look at the internal dimensions on both ends which were obviously smaller. It did present a major problem when trying to fit especially onto the throttle housing which after fitting I'm not totally convinced it is fully home. There is a small gap of 4mm showing to one side but the jubilee clip is on and appears holding at the moment. Will this be or become an issue?
When I had taken the split hose off I noticed there was oil inside the hoses. Is this a warning sign of a disaster ahead or is this normal? I have tried searching for "oil in the intercooler hose" without much success. I do remember coming across a YouTube video somewhere and the person changing the hose did remark n oil present but can't recall if there was any follow up on the il situation.

Your advice and guidance is gratefully appreciated on every level! I'm now ready for lots of tea after scrubbing my hands to the bone with fairy! Crying or Very sad

Stephen

Oil inside these hoses is normal, a little though, not loads hopefully.
Fitted the britpart hose myself earlier this year. Found that one a little fiddly but got it on. Took it for a test drive and it blew off, obviously hadn't the jubilee clip tight enough! Re fitted and it's been fine. A little oil inside might help getting it to fit up the whole way?
That was the easy part the bottom hose on this trunking where it attaches to the intercooler, I had to take the whole front bumper off to fit it. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I bought a cheap hose at £12, waste of time and money. It was too long and diameters too small when trimmed. Ended up butchering it to patch the old one, while a quality silicone one arrived from

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FREELANDER-2-2-...ect=mobile

This one fitted perfectly, took around 15 mins to fit.

Contacted the seller of the first hose, who have me a full refund even though I had cut the hose up, so fair play to him Thumbs Up

Thats exactly my worry Laughing I've some extra tools now just in case this happens. Took it for a blast up and down the carriageway to make sure its on securely. It's not the easiest work space to carry out a repair and I don't regard myself as having overly big hands or forearms Smile I'm certainly not looking forward to replacing the bottom hose when it goes but at least I'll be a bit more prepared with silicone hoses? We'll see!
I put some silicone spray on the inside and heated it in hot water as well which didn't make any difference or maybe not enough of either...

Managed to find a post from ages ago about the oil so no issues there. Many thanks!
