Did you charge the dashcam for a few hours indoors before installation? That seems to be a common issue with the Nextbase cams if that step is missed. Current driveway contents:

2009 FL2 dog bus and shooting wagon

On Order: 2023 Fisker Ocean Ultra - deposit paid.

Maybe I need to fit it to a permanent supply from the car.

Don't do that. Just shove a 26AH gel battery under the seat. Velcro & tie it down & cover terminals, fuse at battery terminal end. With one battery it will be ok to simply plug in so when the engine is running it will charge. Set the camera to a low voltage cut off.

If you go with lithium it is a whole set of problems as you do not want to over charge by even a small amount.

Lead acid is easy. I have four 26 AH gel batteries in the car mainly for our fridge, also to charge phones etc & can jump start if needed. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Yes I charged it twice, soon as I put it into the car & manually turned it on using the internal battery it went off after about 10 seconds saying flat battery. 2014 Freelander 2 HSE Orkney Grey. Now sold.

I keep pushing the escape button but I am still here.

A lot of people with the same problem out there. It should hold a charge for around 15mins but many are getting less than 2mins. Trip back to the retailer may be in order for a replacement under warranty. Current driveway contents:

Just fitted a Nextbase 522. Used glovebox fuse 5 as mentioned in the video. Handbook though shows fuse 5 as being vacant. Mine fitted with a 10A fuse.

Just sent my 522 back, all sorts of battery issues. Charged it up over night then took it off in the morning. Tried switching it on in the evening & battery dead after about 15 seconds.

Did it again yesterday & fully charged it overnight, took it off charge in the morning & left it all day in the kitchen, tried turning it on last night & lasted about 15 seconds then warned of low battery & then switched itself off, I tried to charge it again but it would not charge (no LED lit to say charging) so tried switching it back on & to my surprise it switched back on showing a full charge & lasted 15 minutes before shutting down.

Been on to NextBase technical & they have no answer so decided to send it back, I have the rear camera installed in my car so will have to buy another even tho I am not sure if I should.

The camera has spent more time in my kitchen than in the car on test. Had enough of it now. 2014 Freelander 2 HSE Orkney Grey. Now sold.

Definitely sounds like a duff unit. Mine lasts around 15 minutes under its own battery.
