Thoughts on Remapping..??

Hello Folks,
Forgive me - i'm sure this has been asked many times before but....

Just out of interest I spoke to the guy that remapped my daughters VW Scirocco Tdi last year.
He's quoted a Stage 1 remap of my FL2 giving 200bhp and 500nm of torque... Shocked

Is this feasible and, more importantly - is it advisable..??

For your manual box, no.

+1

The SD4 with 190PS/420nm came only with the autobox because the manual one wasn't up to the job. Jules

For a 2006 TD4 manual you should expect to see an increase from 160bhp/420Nm to around 190bhp/450Nm at the very most,

any more without mechanical modifications and youll be asking for trouble further down the line.

The later TD4 was the same mechanically as the SD4 just had a detuned map (see graphs)

So if you'd had a late TD4 autobox remapping it would have been more viable. Jules

I would also add, it depends on the condition/wear in the transmission system as a whole
you would be putting a lot more stress through the system. (especially a manual box)

Am I right in thinking that to make full use of the extra power, the auto gearbox would need remapping, or is the gearbox clever enough to realise that you have an engine that revs productively to a higher figure, and adjust itself. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I have always been under the impression that there where differences to the spec (Turbo maybe) rather than it just being down to mapping changes.
Sure I read of these at the time, can't be sure though memory isn't as sharp as it was so happy to be corrected. Andrew

Looking at the power/torque curves it looks like the TD4 gets 'neutered' at just over 2000 rpm giving it quite a narrow peak torque Big Cry It must make the SD4 so much easier to drive..??
Looking at the comments it would also seem that the Manual 'box is a bit of a weak link which is typical of my luck - I wanted an auto but mine came up local and cheap... Rolling Eyes

I've spoken to the lad that does the remapping and he can tweak/adjust to suit so it could be possible to just fatten the torque curve 'a bit' without going the whole hog and taking it to SD4 spec. Can the manual 'box handle a little more power/torque or is it on limit of what it can take..??

In summary - from the comments above I'm not now looking to 'get as much as I can' but I would like to make the curves look more 'natural' and not cropped off like they appear to be.. good idea or still not advised..??

Mine is getting done in the new year I had my Discovery 3 done by Remap kings back in June best mod I did on it ,
I had to sell it as wife was finding it to high for her to get into so now have a Freelander 2 se great little car quick out of the box but it will be getting a map 😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
Engine and box will both take remap with no problems as both are under used from factory your just releasing some of the power that Land Rover lock away 😡

A lot of the reliability is down to driving style and mechanical sympathy. As long as you are not driving as if its got 'launch control' or flogging it everywhere it would take a remap better torque and quite probably fuel economy. Plenty happy with my Sd4 power wise, wondered if a remap would help it's fuel economy but probably little gain and would be a long time breaking even cost wise. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I may be wrong, but I thought that the FL2 limited the power in first as it was too much for the transmission. This implies that the gearbox talks to the engine management to say hold the horses, what happens with a chipped engine? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

You are most likely correct and a mapper would have to bear that in mind when writing a new map. Jules
