United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White
Freelander gets Good Reliability Rating in Poll.

What Car Magazine 'Used Car Reliability Survey 2022'.
(Feb 2022 Issue)
[I've not got a crystal ball, this is how they date the current magazine]

I was pleased to read that the FL2 (2006-2014) came out 3rd most reliable car in the Used Small SUV Class with a score of 91.6%.

It says that only 17% of the FL2 owners surveyed reported troubles, thus setting it apart from the more modern 'tech-laden' Land Rover models. With battery and non-engine electrics being the most common faults.

In the editorial they say that the 'long-discontinued' Freelander bucks the trend of Land Rover taking the wooden spoon as the least dependable brand.

---- I always knew that the LR2 will be a future classic. ---- FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

Good to read this - does sometimes feel that from a tech vs. reliability point of view LR peaked with our beloved Freelander 2. Andrew

The best 4x4xFord. 😁
Surprising that Ford didn't re market it as a Maverick like they did with the old Nissan Teranno. I know the Kuga has similar under pinnings but not really the same market. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Bob, probably because they still had the surprisingly good, and very successful, Ford Explorer at the time.

I had a 1998 Explorer from 2006 until 2019. It was a marvelous beast and regularly towed our two ton racing yacht around the country quite happily. It was capable enough for the small amounts of cross country I do and a relaxed motorway cruiser. Very reliable and Ford parts meant that it was not too expensive, either.

Anyway, it is excellent to see my belief confirmed that the FL2 is the most reliable LR they built.

Tim

I think that this is the real reason that the FL2 stands out from the rest of the range.

I am always intrigued by how similar large American Ford SUVs are in design to my FL2. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

And don't forget, Volvo, for their part in the rear seat arm rest.

So only 17% of owners reported issues.

Were the rest too embarrassed to respond. Rolling with laughter Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.
