Rear Diff

How wrong could I have been!
I got my tyres replaced a month back and put Wranglers on in place of Contis.....then started to notice much more road noice - I actually posted a message back then to say I thought these tyres were much noisier.
However, noise levels increased, so when it went in for its 45k service 2 weeks ago, I asked them to check the noise levels out. Result was that the rear diff was failing!
They couldn't fix it straight away because they needed the part, which they then found was on 'back order' - so does that suggest that LR are having a bit of a run on these?
Anyway, now replaced and calm and relative silence has returned to the cabin whilst driving.....

Spoke too soon! Sad
Just four days after having diff replaced I thought I was just becoming paranoid in thinking the noise was starting to reappear, but when I got home I then noticed oil on the driveway immediately below the diff and looking underneath I could see oil dripping...so this morning Stratstones Cheltenham have driven 35 miles to deliver me a courtesy Freelander and taken mine back to their workshop....still waiting for an update as I type this message....more updates as they happen!

How unlucky, I hopey they've just fitted it wrongly, and weill sort it quickly.

At least its all under warranty, and you've got a loaner.

I wonder if them having to wait for a part is good news, or bad. Could be that they've never had one fail on car yet, and yours was a design fault, so they haven't got spares out there yet. Either that or they're failing frequently like you said.

Hope it gets sorted.

Rich

All sorted (hopefully)!
It would appear as though I was being a bit paranoid about the return of the noise and the oil dripping was apparantly where they hadn't properly clear all the excess from a channel when they fitted the new diff so it wasn't actually leaking. If that is the case, I do have to say fair play to Stratstones Cheltenham for their prompt attention and the loan of the car which included their 70 mile round trip to deliver it and collect my car, within an hour or so of me phoning them!

That's good to know.

The closest Land Rover dealership to me is in Fort Worth, Texas. I'm 300 miles away. Usually when I get service there I'll drive into Fort Worth and drop the vehicle off. They give me a loan vehicle and I go buy a new gun or some hunting/camping/fishing gear and by the time I'm done the Freelander or Freelander 2 is ready to go.

There is a movement to have a dealership built in Midland. No stimulus needed ha ha ha Rolling with laughter I carry a gun because I can't carry a cop.

Next time you are in Fort Worth, say hello to my half-brother and half-sister!
Instead of going to buy a gun or some more camping equipment, why not spend the day at Six Flags? Laughing

just had the same issue, fitted new tyres (Pirelli Scorpions) and noticed a rumbling noise getting louder. Thought it was the new tyres. I have alos just bought a new caravan with twin axles and when towing noticed a bit of a judder when pulling away, thought this was the twin axles. On tuesday when driving to work i pulled out of a junction and the car stopped revved high and then clunked and carried on. I thought this was an auto gearbox problem and took the car straight to the dealers. Diagnosis is a failed dif at 65000 miles, glad Land Rover offer an unlimited mileage warranty as this would not have been covered with my last car a Volvo XC90 which only has a 600,00 mile warranty.

The parts are also on back order and no indication yet on when they will be available so waiting on enterprise delivering me a loan car until mine is fixed.

I still love the car but could do without these issues.

It really annoys me - don't Landrover stock any parts at all????

Had to wait a month for my new drivers seat because 'it had to be specially made to order)
c Censored p!!

Surely with all the stories regarding poor reliability of the FL1, LR would have made sure they had a plentiful supply of parts for the FL2 'just in case'? Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
Gone - 2014 BMW X3 M Sport Space Grey, faultless!
Gone - 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Bali Blue with xenons
Gone - 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Rimini Red with bodykit

They should be able to get one relatively quickly. Mine was replaced within a week of being diognosed. At least you got some reasonable milage out of yours, mine was replaced 2800miles.

Enterprise delivered the hire car to me today and its a brand new FL2 HSE auto which is just the same as mine, with a few less miles. If they dont get the parts i'll just keep this one.

Are you sure about that? Shocked
On my country the warranty is 3 years or 100.000 Km (62.000 Miles) whichever comes first...
