Hi all.

Ive got a 2007 (57) 2.2 Td4 with 100k. Every morning after being left overnight . It will strugle to start sometimes will start and cut out several times. This bad starting comes with lots of white smoke. The smoke has a strong diesel smell and very lumpy idle. This will clear after a few revs applied. And will run fine all day apart from drinking fuel. Alot of town driving and only getting 17mpg.

All levels are ok. Not losing oil or water.

Glow plugs have been changed. New throttle body as this was logging codes. Injectors tested and one replaced other 3 border line pass. All coded and fueling rest. Egr blanked off.

Only things i am heading towards is either a compression issue or the other injectors need replacing

Any ideas would be greatly appricated.

Maybe the wideband oxygen sensor ?...
When gets old and metals inside get consumed or gets contaminated with soot, it starts to report lean combustion. This as far as those 17 MPG are concerned.

Also the cranking RPM is better to be as high as possible.
So, maybe an additional earth strap from battery to engine block and maybe even a new battery if the actual one is over 4-5 years...

Where are the oxygen sensors on the FL2¿ and are they changeable myself?

Its a Freelander thing Sid, always problems to solve. In answer to the question, the Lambda sensor is behind the engine six inches from the Turbo connection. Its easier to drop the whole exhaust to do it. A big clamp on the turbo, and six rubber rings. Heat it up with an accetalene torch before trying to turn it. Don't forget the electrical plug at the centre top at the back of the cylinder head first.

Thanks for the info, it sounds like a garage job for the o2 sensor…

I tried cleaning the MAP, MAF and changing the fuel filter yesterday, so will see if that helps too. Definitely getting very low fuel consumption….
