Replacing air vent tabs

When I had the panel surrounding the audio unit removed I intended to replace a broken air vent tab (the silver knob that is used to adjust the direction of the air vent) but I couldn’t for the life of me work out how to do it. The tab is in two parts - the silver bit that has a slot in it to enable it to be slid over the vertical vent bars, and a black plastic piece that connects with the horizontal bars. But how to fit the black piece behind the vertical bars and then attach it to the silver part? Can the vertical bars be removed?

Hi

Yes they can, I've just done mine. You need to remove the entire vent unit and then very carefully unclip the front bit containing the 3 vertical vents. You need to unclip the plastic bar at the bottom as well The three vents then unclip and you can reclip the silver bit onto the centre one. I used a bit of super glue to hold the black bit into the silver bit or you can buy a repair kit on ebay. Then you just clip it all back together

I’m sure there’s a video of doing these on Powerful UK.

Yes, I thought there was too, but the only one I can find relates to removing the entire air vent beside the A pillar. Nothing about taking the vent apart to replace the tab. But Vintagecat explains how he did it so I’ll have another go.

There is one on how to remove the vent but they don't show how to dismantle it
