Brake fluid change

I was looking to change the brake fluid on my 2010 HSE Freelander 2 except the Haynes manual recommends letting a “specialist” do this job due to the tools required. Is there anything complex or different to this job compared to do your standard fluid change? I’ve always put someone in the drivers seat to pump the brake while I control the fluid flow at each caliper nipple, is the process different for a Freelander 2?

In theory I believe you need to be able to activate some valves in the ABS unit via computer ( i dont know the details) to allow a 100% flush. However bleeding the rest of the system in the usual way flushes through most of the system. Whether the bit in the ABS unit make a significant difference regarding flushing I'm not sure but I've flushed in the usual way without attaching a computer and the brakes are really good.

There are people on here who can give the definitive answer I'm sure. Jules

THe book says flush as normal unless you change the ABS unit, which comes pre-filled with fluid. On ethen uses Test Book to flush the valve block.

Yeah, normal old school bleed and flush.

I try to activate the ABS (on sand or snow) a couple times each year to make sure it gets cycled and hopefully flushed.

I had ATS change my brake fluid a few years ago, it was around £30, for that price not worth the hassle of doing it yourself Thumbs Up

Should be done every 3 years on all cars. I just get my mechanic to do it. Life is too short. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
