Tailgate handle trim rust/paint damage - again

Hi all,

I found the topic on this just wanted to check what the latest thinking/fix was as the last entry seemed to be a few years old.

The 2010 facelift I bought had a large patch of rust at the end of the chrome tailgate trim, dealer sent it to paint shop and they re-sprayed the entire tailgate.

When I went to collect the car the paint was chipped off at the edges of the strip that houses the number plate lights and handle.

Paintshop thought it was because it had been jet washed. Went back in and they made a really bad job of touching it up. Flaking off within days and now it's rained there's a rust stain dribbling down the paintwork.

As part of 'fixing' it, they also tightened the trim to the metal which appears to be exactly the wrong thing to do.

Apart from putting some form of gasket (automotive tape seems the best suggestion) onto the plastic strip before re-fitting is there any other fix? Have LR come up with a gasket kit for this at all?

Cheers

Given this problem and your parking sensors it sounds like you’re being short changed by the dealer, the outside contractors and the guy with the pressure washer

Yeah, it took 4 weeks for them to prep the car. Several cock ups, some through not listening, some through parts availablity, some through just carelessness.

It's not a LR dealer I should add.

I did ask a local Paint shop what they thought and they knew the problem well, suggested fitting some kind of gasket type on the trim.

But the info confirming it shouldn't be tight to the body is new and kinda counter intuitive.

When I had mine off to do the switch I noticed signs of rubbing when I put it back together I put some rubber washers where the screws go in it seemed to lift it just enough.
