Door lock

Have an instance of dodgy door lock nearside rear. It is the classic problem. Mine locks fine but will not unlock. It gets about 95% of the way, ie the black catch opens but just not far enough. Ah actuator I thought but then saw a guy on YouTube squirt some silicon grease inside his, handle not actuator, and it worked. So I tried that and yes was fine for a couple of openings then failed again, so more grease worked again for a couple of times. I cannot see this being an actuator fault. If the motor is duff, it's duff no amount of squirting grease in will affect it. Something else apart from actuator?

No it’s replacement door lock time… loads of threads on here about it… take your time and it’s an awkward but relatively simple job…

@Bogart - most likely the actuator motor - they often fail intermittently at first. There are two - they are cheap and easily removed from the latch.

Whatever the problem though, the only way to get at the latch is to take the door apart. Lots of threads on here and instructions in the JLR manual. Jules

Nope, that’s the first signs of failing actuator motor. They don’t have enough grunt to overcome the stiction of the locking mechanism. A bit of spray lube will temporarily overcome it, as you have found out.

As jules has already stated, there are plenty of write ups about replacing the motors (his includes lots of pics as well), or the whole actuator if you so wish. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.
