Heater only blowing in footwell when set to “auto”

Hi all, I wonder if you can help me? In my Freelander 2 when I set the climate control to “auto” with any kind of warm temperature, the heat will only come out from the footwell blowers. I am able to set the system manually and it will blow heat from the dashboard blowers just fine, the error only occurs on auto.

This issue happens on both sides of the dual zone system. Cold temperatures on “auto” will come from the dash blowers just fine.

When I was fiddling around during a drive, I was flicking the dials from hot to cold and at one point, on the driver’s said, the system started blowing hot air from the dashboard blowers but the temperature was set to maximum cold! I may have confused the system because the passenger side was set to cold also but working fine.

Anyway, I’ve not got the foggiest why it’s not making use of the dashboard blowers. Surely this isn’t normal behaviour for the automatic climate control system?

Thanks in advance,

Ellis

Same thing happens in mine..I did think it was a bit odd but I just assumed it’s how they are. Maybe some other owners can check and report back if it’s the same in their cars?

If it works manually to correct ducts, then it is most likely OK.
I am puzzled about lack of really cold air, if Air Con is selected on the FL2 gives a plentyfull supply of cold air.

When it is in Auto, many sensors decide where the air goes, and at what temperature.

If it is going wrong there should be an error code in the system waiting to be read.

(Although I need to select manual air distribution in some extreme damp conditions, my Climate Control works away quite successfully for weeks on end with no input from me.) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

IIRC, climate control will only work correctly
if both temperature dials are set at no more than two degrees difference to each other. DAVE.
