Hi I am a new member my name is Gill and my husband owns a landrover Freelander 2 which we love.... Hopefully there is someone on here who can help me? We put out LR2 into a garage for a full service and suspected rear diff issues. It had the full service but we were told it needed a timing belt/water pump combo as it was near 100.000miles and the diff needed to be rebuilt. so I gave the garage the go ahead as we had a holiday booked. When we got our LR back which is 13miles drive it seemed okay! we did not use the car again for 10 days until our holiday to Cornwall once we got onto a motorway to drive at any decent speed the car struggled mechanically it did not like gear changes and drove terribly with intermittent burning we got to Cornwall and never drove the car again until the journey home, which was so scary the car was clonking and making some dreadful noise. we got home and the next day the car would not start we got out the aa who said that the car was showing cam sensor errors. We took it to a LR specialist who said it sounded like the belt could be a tooth out, and we should return it to the garage that fitted it but the garage refused to help us so LD specialist tested the car and it showed a cam belt sensor was faulty. also the diff the garage fitted they did not use a lock washer so it was not done up tightly so in essence the diff broke itself apart as we drove. so LR had to re-do that work too! My question is the full service showed no signs of a cam belt sensor issue? yet the first time we really run the car after the timing belt/water pump being fitted it drove badly? could the garage of damaged the cam sensor fitting the timing belt? due to its location? the car worked fine when we put it into the garage apart from the diff noises? did the garage have a duty of care to us as it was within 3 weeks of the work being carried out? they were negligent regarding the diff and I feel they were negligent with fitting the timing belt too but I would like someone else's advice

A lot of this was answered on the other LR forum.
It's unfortunate but you seem to have found yourself in a different situation, made worse because of many factors.

You could try a solicitor to see where you stand, but getting anything positive is going to be a struggle, especially as I believe both garages aren't being honest with you.  Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The replacement for the SE.

I think sadly that your best route is to speak to Cit advice or/and a solicitor

There are too many variables to give a exact cause from what you have put,
yes they could have damaged the sensor
but you may have done more damage by continuing on your journey and then back again
If you had stopped at first sign of a problem and then maybe got the AA out, with recovery back to the garage that did the work then you should have had a better chance at the repair.

Now you have used another garage (L/R) to effect a repair who knows what was wrong to start with and what damage you did by continuing to drive it.

Just my view I would do the first line above.

Unfortunately I think you have made things very difficult for yourselves by continuing to drive the car when you've admitted it clearly was not right. Mechanical noises, poor performance and burning smells are all signs the car needs to stop immediately.

On the flip side I understand the huge disruption this can cause to a holiday, so I'm not blaming you for carrying on.
