MY13 /14 and ICarsoft LR V2.0

Does anybody have an MY13 of later and one of

    iCarsoft LR V2.0, currently £136

    iCarsoft LR V3.0, currently £179

    iCarsoft CR V2.0), currently £156

I’m thinking of buying one but thoughts would be welcome - fully functional on later cars, worth the money, good, bad, indifferent or useless etc before I buy.

I don’t want to get into the higher priced brands given the very limited use envisaged. The first two are both showing up as pre-order (nil stock) and I have emailed the supplier re expected availability - unsurprisingly he made no mention of the LR V2.0 but expects the later model V3 in the 'next day or two.

My first use would be to reset the current transmission error which started with a flat battery but hasn't cleared itself with a new one. Thereafter, as the little used car gets older... who knows what faults it will develop but forewarned is forearmed.

Cheers...

I went for the foxwell NT530 weighs in at around £150
What made me go for it was that for an extra £50 a go you can add other manufactures to it.
I hear a lot about the icar soft and none of it bad. Stewart

Hello ReggiePerrin, I recently purchased a icarsoft LR v2.0 having been recommended by a friend who has same but not LR,

Unfortunately for me when it arrived it didn’t work as it required a software download from a computer me being me have not got a laptop or anything to use, I waited a week or so to find assistance to do the download.

Having waited I borrowed a autel diagnostic tool which didn’t flag anything on the fault code I was trying to read,

Now then when the icarsoft was functional it actually read the fault code, diagnosed the fault replaced the sensor and my fault with the heater has been fixed far cheaper than a stealer dealer.

I would recommend a icarsoft LR V2.0 but demand from the supplier LJ car diagnostics from Hartlepool that they supply it with the software loaded onto it, to add the updates are lifetime free.

£136 quid it read a fault that a £700 quid one didn’t.

Possibly other people may not agree with me but it’s good and cheap.

Thanks Davyboy...

The computer thing for downloads is not a problem - more of concern is that I have seen suggestions, possibly in these forums, that the Freelander 2 stuff wasn’t developed beyond MY12 cars.

I was going to buy from LJM Car Diagnostics in Hartlepool too but they currently have neither of the models of interest in stock. There are other suppliers - primarily on a well known auction site but buying anything more technically complex or more expensive than an out of print paperback on eBay is not my cup of tea 🙂

Hi Reggie P, be careful with suppliers offering alternatives to purchase as they may be cheap Chinese copies plus poor warranty or no free downloads.

I notice your from Derbyshire, we are off to Chatsworth on Sunday cc site for a week, your welcome to borrow my icarsoft tool.

If helps? Will go to assist.

The NT530 came blank also as it can do any manufacture - you got one free go to add on what make you wanted. It also has free life time updates and support. i used the support when i seen a bug and a month or so later an update came out with bug fixed.. guessing they were on it rather than jumping at what i said... Stewart

I got caught with Icarsoft for a Mercedes. Won't work with other makes of car.
So if you have a second car or a friends car forget it.

For me, the one car version would be fine but the CR V2.0 (£156) allows ten makes of car to be downloaded onto it and the CR V3.0 (£229) it is three makes. No doubt the downloaded software will be identical to that loaded onto single make versions.

The ten car model might represent a better buy than the LR version but hey, the LR version is the price of a single decent tyre and that never gets used on other cars either Smile Did the Merc version do what you needed it to do?

They know how to make money. Looks exactly the same as mine for the Mercedes. I would also hazard to thing it is only a software difference.

"Only a software difference"

Software development cost a lot, I get this almost every week at work, it's only a software change, can't cost much. Really well you do it then is my obvious reply. I can spend months writing a piece of software to have some clown change the specification and make 50% redundant. Or even better the same software takes a couple of months to write but they allow 3 days to test - that's every function in every conceivable scenario.

Best guess if they were going to sell 50 then the software alone would be over a thousand pounds per unit on top of the hardware and firmware cost. Sell 5,000 and the unit becomes viable, sell millions and the software cost per unit is less than the packaging cost, so you could include it for free. But are you going to sell millions of diagnostic tools for home mechanics with limited skills to diagnose issues on very expensive Mercedes cars?

OBDII software that works on the majority of cars is thrown in free, for that very reason, it's supposed to be standard so every unit that you sell can have the same OBDII software and you are going to sell lots of units. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
