Are there any recommendations for swapping from 19" alloys down to 17", lots of farm tracks and roads in the sticks going to be driven over the next few years as well as having to park on street in Bristol at the moment so the HSE 19" are going to get hammered so may need to go into storage or ebay....

Did exactly what you are doing, a few years back. Bought an Sd4 HSE with standard 19" wheels and OMG was the ride as hard as nails compared to my previous TD4...too hard to live with. So I bought 2nd hand a set of 17" and fitted with brand new Continentals as per original spec for that size and they were a sheer delight for the next 39,500 miles. In 2019 I changed to Pirelli "all weather" and what a huge mistake! They wandered all over the place, every change of surface, and gradient, and white lines, were reflected in the direction of the steering wheel. I thought there was something seriously wrong and took car back for wheel realignment to the fitter and to another place for second opinion. All checked out as correct, so therefor it must be the tyres. Due to Covid and reduced miles the tyres are lasting forever but can't wait to get back to Contis for some straight line motoring. Hope that helps.

Have standard fitment 17" 6 spoke GS alloys with 235/65 tyres, perfect comfort and current General Grabber AT3 have so far done 43000 miles. Had 18's on previous D2 which weren't ideal, anything 19" or above must be horrible. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Just put four new Goodyear Wranglers on my 17" wheels. Black circles £403 and fitted by a local garage. Old ones (all replaced together) had done 30k miles, the fronts had about 4.5mm left and the rears about 3mm so decided to replace all 4. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

To be fair Ihave found the 19's absolutely fine on some 250+ mile motorway trips but around town and on anything B road or worse and yes they are unnervingly firm! I think the do look nice but when funds allow I will be looking for some 17's. Are the Continental tyres you suggest the conti cross?

I fitted Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season 235/65R17 108 V XL about 13k miles ago and I have to say I find them entirely satisfactory. I don’t know if these are the same as the “all weather” ones referred to above but I don’t find any wandering whatsoever.

Yokohama Geolander AT 015 are brilliant in all conditions, so I'll be fitted a set to mine, when the current tyres need changing. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

BF Goodrich urban terrain quiet on road very good off road and in snow never got stuck but most of all they will do high mileages, not cheap but worth it as they last. 2013 FL2 XS.

I just put on some FIFTEEN52 TRAVERSE MX 17s on my LR2. Went with KO2s as I was looking for an AT tire. Size is 245/65/17 no lift, no rubbing.

Surprised about your experience of the Michelin latitude cross, have read very good reviews and thought they would do big miles. How long did yours last out of interest? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I’ve got Hankook Dynapro ATM’s fitted. 245/70/17. No lift, no rub.

Cheaper than the BF’s but a comparable tire.

I lost ~5% mpg, and the odometer reads 5% under. Speedo under reads by 1-2 mph ish.

Handling is the same in the dry, a little worse in the wet (you have to push pretty hard to notice tbh) Noise isn’t any worse than the stock Goodyears I reckon. Multiple people have commented how quiet my car is, even at allegedly extralegal speeds. Great off road and in snow / ice.

I’ve done 25,000 miles in 14 months and they still have plenty of tread, I’m very impressed.
