window waist seals and oil catchers

Evening All

First chat being new to the forum.

Has anyone replaced the window seals / trims known as outer waist seal being the rubber bottom seal that stops water from entering the inner door panel and if so how difficult is it to replace them.

next question - seen a You Tube vid showing the installation of an oil catcher - has anyone had issues when they have been fitted and would you recommend fitting one.

I think that will do for now being a new boy.

Cheers

In 185,000 miles I never had an engine oil leak so why would you fit an oil catcher, or am I missing the point?
Change the oil every 10-12,000 miles or yearly with good quality oil and the engine is good for 250,000 miles.

Sorry I can't help with the waist seals, I was lucky in that respect, did swap out a couple of window winder mechanisms, well documented on here, but a bit drastic just to change a seal Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Welcome. I have an oil catch can, having been convinced by possibly the same videos. However I am yet to fit it, sorry. I haven't done the other job you mention - it's an item I am always impressed by when I wash the car.

Andy, the oil catcher you are thinking of is the under tray. This is the one inline with the turbo. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

Oil catch cans are a pointless way to extract money from you. What are you wanting it to to do?
The oil in the intake helps lubrication of the intake valves, which is a good thing. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. My daily driver.

I once fitted a can catch to a diesel Skoda Octavia VRS- it collected fluid but well over 95% was condensed water vapour - the amount of oil "caught " was minimal . I took it off as it appeared to be a pointless exercise. Jules
