Cam belt changed, serviced, new battery, 96,000 on the clock. Need to start using 100 miles a day. Should I be confident?

No problem, these cars are better driven than parked up

It will cope well but there are cheaper to run diesels for that sort of mileage, unless you need the 4x4 ability?

If you had said 196,000 miles my answer would have been why not?
Mine managed 185,000+ miles and a short day was 80 miles, only once failed to get me to work and back - ran out of fuel.
The cars are good for a lot more miles than that, mine needed a respray.
One of my deciding factors about going with LR was that two colleges doing the same job died at the wheels of their company cars only a few weeks apart, at that point I (well the wife actually) decided that I would be better off in a tank should I get involved in an accident. The odds were there, 50,000 miles a year, over 70 hours a week and being called out early hours every week if not every night.

I was lucky for a long time but eventually I did get rammed up the rear on the motorway, the following driver was going well in excess of 70mph and didn't brake until the last few feet - I was stationary. Yes the FL2 was damaged, she still got me home unlike the Nissan that hit me. Piece of mind, what's that worth?

You could indeed buy a Golf and save a fortune on fuel, but you still have to actually buy the Golf so factor that in. If the unthinkable does happen which do you want to be in? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Don't underestimate the fuel cost on a commute free 2's are rather thirsty especially the auto
My wife does 100 miles a day commute and her astra diesel needed a swap at 200k miles
It was either another diesel or take a leap of faith and go electric
So we ended up buying a tesla model S second hand as nothing else at the time could comfortably manage that milage in winter with enough spare if a road was closed and had to go the long way etc
Cost wise its working out the same as a bit newer astra diesel the savings in fuel are huge she was spending £3k a year now about £250 extra on the electric bill no tax no services tyres last loads longer but cost twice as much so thats neutral
Depreciation is the only real cost so far and its a lot about £4k a year so far but all cars depreciate so we have swapped fuel plus Depreciation for just Depreciation and she gets to drive a much better car
If you don't do the miles then the maths falls away fast but its been an interesting 2 and a half years so far

I wonder how long it will be before the govt decides to start taxing EVs on miles driven? I feel we are coming up to a crunch point where the govt will be pushing to make it very expensive to take diesels and then petrol vehicles into city centres then pushing up the fuel duty especially diesel, to incentivise people to buy EVs. I am not sure that the strategy of buying a new diesel in 2029 and keeping it forever is going to be practical for most people.
I read an article recently about the fact that building a car is a 7 year project and that we only have 9 years to go until the ICE ban starts to bite in 2030, so important decisions will need to be made by manufacturers in the next year or so. Interesting times ! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I don't think EVs will be taxed at a per mile rate just yet. I'm thinking that as EV adoption reaches something like 50%, then there will need to some form of taxation imposed. The government will be out of pocket billions in lost VED and fuel duty, so it'll have no choice but to implement some form of tax on them. I think there will be an increase in ICE vehicle taxation initially, which could well evolve into an all vehicles taxation over time. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.
