Insurance refund

I sold my Audi TT yesterday. The guy came, paid cash and drove it away.

So I rang my insurance broker and asked to remove it from my policy (I've got a multicar policy, so I don't even know how much I was paying for it).

The policy is due for renewal on 26th March, which is just over 7 weeks away.

The lady at the broker said sorry, because it's next month, you won't get a refund.

How can that be right?

To cap it all, I've been chatting to friends who have been given a £25 rebate from their insurers out of the blue, to compensate them for not using their cars during lockdown!

I shall be writing to the Insurance Ombudsman to complain.

The cancellation refund is always a percentage based on how long you have been insured and this close to the end of the policy is probably nil as they have carried the risk for most of a year. Your policy terms and conditions will list this and also given you will have received a discount on other vehicles on your multicar policy removing the Audi will also affect that. There will also be an admin charge for changes to the policy (again in your terms and conditions) Its swings and roundabouts with the £25 refund. (Admiral) which I got (good) but they now charge a £5 admin fee for number plate changes (bad) which used to be free! Big Cry

When I was in my early 20s, an insurance agent told me that insurance was buying "peace of mind" not for claims, etc...........I switched companies that week. Did make some difference.
