Crankcase Breather Confusion

Hi all, hoping someone can help.

I need to replace the crankcase breather hose on my 2012 SD4 as the clip that attaches to the air intake has snapped.

The original LR replacement was LR022508 (£20) which has been superseded by LR065344 (£105!!), however I have found what appears to be an identical part LR065344 which is only £45.

The two available parts and their respective, identical schematics can be found using the links below. If anyone can explain the difference between LR065344 and LR065345 I'd be very greatful.

Thanks

The 2nd paragraph should read:

The original LR replacement was LR022508 (£20) which has been superseded by LR065344 (£105!!), however I have found what appears to be an identical part LR065345 which is only £45 but isn't listed for my VIN.

Why do you need to replace the complete hose if its just the clip that has broken.
Could you not just fit a descent jubilee type clip ? Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Where did you find the reference to the "crankcase breather filter"? There is no (crankcase breather) filter per se...
There is the crankcase vent oil separator and the camshaft cover with the PCV valve. And neither have inside something like a filter.
Take a look at the picture below and see if it serves you well...

Thank you

I only have the car for two month. I previously owned a Freelander 1 TD4. That is the explanation. Now I see what it is about. Still wonder why I find oil in the air intake duct.

After oil separation in the lower separator, the "clean" air is mixed again (!) with some oil vapors from the above camshaft cover and then inserted in the intake manifold.
This is intended "by design", for lubing the intake valves steams at high engine RPM / high boost situations.
So a small amount of oil is there, on the intake, as I've said, "by design".

oil spray into turbo?

My first post on this excellent site...Giday all,

Found this thread looking for why I have oil entering the intake line from the PCV valve.

Just curious about this explanation. Nearly all engines are designed to keep oil out of the intake - it could cause smoke, detonation, fouling - none if these are necessarily show stoppers especially in small amounts, but importantly valve stems are typically not lubricated that way and virtually 100% of engines don't suffer as a result. Also since the air flow slows in the intercooler wouldn't any oil separate out at that point? I'm doubtful much, if any, would get to the guides in a useful form via the entire intake length.

I believe any turbo engine is a particular case for not allowing oil into the intake. With a turbo spinning an X0,000 rpm introducing oil spray is a recipe for disaster (effectively sand blasting the vanes off the turbo over time). And this is what worries me about the oil entering the intake from my PVC.

Comments??

Cheers.

The oil in the intake is there by design, and serves a useful function, as already said above.
Some oil does collect in the intercooler, but soon returns to the air stream under high boost conditions.

The amount of oil in the intake is tiny, just a few grams per hour of running, so it doesn't result in blue smoke, or detonation or anything else untoward. Thumbs Up 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.
