I know you have to remove the starter to lock the flywheel when tightening the front pulley bolt but I can’t remember whether you can get the timing pin tool into the flywheel with the starter still in. It’s not too terrible to remove the starter though. Unless your belt is particularly loose, it is very unusual for a cam belt to jump a tooth or two without stripping the belt. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Present: Audi A3 S Line.

does the starter motor have to come off to check TDC
to see if the belt has jumped as after fitting a new turbo
as the old one sucked up oil into the engine it just wont
start, cleaned every thing out and can turn over the engine
and it tries to start with a bit of easy start and chugs as if it
is only running on two cylinders then stops nothing on the accelerator
pedal and no codes and glow plug light goes out.

It is possible to get to the timing hole in the block without the removing the starter. However it's much easier to get to the timing hole with the starter removed, and it only takes a few minutes to remove. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Adding with the starter removed you can see where the timing hole is in the flywheel. Although I removed the starter I had to use a handled/angled mirror to initially find the hole.

Surely you'll loose far more money scrapping it, than it'll cost to fix. Confused

If you must get rid, then stick it on ebay for spares or repairs, and get a couple of grand back.Wink 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

When you say oil in the cylinders, I assume you are referring to unburnt diesel?
A bit agricultural but why not prime it with diesel and attempt a tow / bump start, Nothing to lose if you are considering scrapping it. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
