It is allowed - front airbag must be deactivated for rear facing child seats.

Not allowed to have babies in capsules forward or rear facing or kids 0 to 4 years in the front seat in Australia. Neighbours had a very minor accident recently & were required to buy a new baby capsule. It was covered by insurance, but really it is an extreme level of landfill bureaucracy. Baby goes in the back or you will be fined & loose points. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
