Does using the above setting actually save on fuel? I've always had it switched on since day one. Apologies if this appears to be a stupid question.

If it's what I'm thinking of, it is the button for the Start/stop system - when you stop at lights and put it in neutral the engine stops. So technically speaking it probably does save fuel if you do a lot of town/city driving and don't sit with the clutch down.

But when the car is in motion, it has no effect. Learned to drive in 2011.

Thanks for the reply. It's not the button for start/stop, my vehicle is a 2008 model. This is the button/switch that can be switched on/off and has 'Eco' on it.

It turns the Aircon on and off. When off its in Economy mode as not using extra engine power for Aircon compressor.

In the TD4e, the Eco button switches on or off the automatic start/stop so that the engine can cut out at traffic lights. The Eco mode comes on automatically every time you switch the ignition on, but the button allows you to over-ride it.

But start/stop only happens if there is an alignment of the planets... The battery needs to be in good condition, the ambient temperature high enough (but not too high!) and the car not using too much electrical power. If I'm lucky I get it to cut out on me about twice a year, which scares the bejeezus out of me, makes me press the accelerator and it comes back on, then realise what has just happened! So, no, it doesn't actually save me any fuel at all!  2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Well that's just confusing 😂 so there's the possibility of more than 1 eco button.

So if it's up top by the hazards and lock/unlock buttons, it's for the start/stop. If it's by the air con controls, it's for that.

I can't remember when the e came into production. It was a stop gap before all TD4s got the start stop functionality. Learned to drive in 2011.

Using the ECO button (A/C) turns the air con system off,
you are still using the heating system but without the a/c
BE WARNED. not using the air conditioning regulary will allow the
the seals to dry out and leak.....and lead to possible damage to the whole system.
It is generally recommened to run the A/C for at least 5 > 10 minutes a week.

It was proved that Volvo trucks used more fuel driving around with the windows down than they do with the air con on all the time.

I noticed when i use a/c the plastic near my right leg (left side steering wheel)is hot,is this normal or not?
