Verify the camshaft sensor. It's electrical connection and its position versus the camshaft sprocket. It may have been moved.
Without it, it's impossible for the ECU to determine when the Cyl.1 is at TDC. Result: a not starting engine.

Hi Alex
he did check it twice but your mention of the position of the camshaft sprocket could poss be the problem.

I will get him to check again tommorrow

Cheers

I had this when a garage did my timing belt . when it was put back together
the crank sensor was pushed in too far and damaged the crankshaft reluctor ring, witch had to be replaced .
Every time I learn something new, something old gets pushed out of my brain?

Probably because it makes it harder to get the engine top cover off and then that removed gives a lot more access to camshaft
pully to help with removing and replacing the belt

cheers for your input

There is a very slim chance the replacement CS is duff. Had that happen to me.

On renewing the belts etc I decided to replace my CS as a preventative maintenance thing but had to put the old one back on Smile

Had something similar happen to me a couple of weeks ago after my cambelt change. Would turn over fine, but not start. Ran diagnostics and came back as camshaft sensor.

Unbolted it, unplugged it, gave her a wipe down and then reattached and she went away fine as if nothing had been wrong. Still not sure what was up there, only thing i can think of was position was off slightly, even though the locating pin should stop that.

Just to be clear...
There is a crankshaft sensor and there is a camshaft sensor...
When you renew the timing belt you need to remove the crankshaft sensor.
The camshaft sensor doesn't need removing.
I was talking about the later, the camshaft sensor, the one on top of the engine...

Thanks to all who gave valuable help and hints all is now well. Thumbs Up
After he took everything off (obviously not water pump new tensioner etc) started from scratch put it back together it started Rolling Eyes possibly the timing was out a smidge but happy ending
while there he gave the battery a overnight charge when he checked it the reading was not great so with winter coming I have ordered a Varta f18 as I see many on here have done bought from Battery Mega Store for £90 next day del and a decent 5 yr warranty

Thanks again
