Should I walk away

2007 FL2 auto 119k miles £3400.

Car looks clean but queries wth the owner have thrown up hiccups.. current owner has had the car for eight years.
Cambelt/waterpump not changed.
Has never changed autobox oil,or filter.
Is this worth progressing or do,I walk away and keep looking.
I had the bad experience of an Autobox failure on my D2 a year after I bought it.
So, I have a thing about autos. I have the oil in my auto changed every year as part of the annual service.
Thoughts please.

That’s why it’s £3400. I doubt if you’d get a FSH, cam belt changed, fluids changed FL2 for that price. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Its a ticking timebomb of expensive repairs (unless you do DIY) - dont walk away - run ! Laughing

Also the autobox doesnt have a filter that can be easily replaced/cleaned. Jules

It's a 13 year old car, drive it, if it changes gear ok and the transmission and rear axle seem fine go for it, it's cheap and even at an Indie you are looking at about a grand for the lot, the timing belt is outside limits on time but about OK on mileage. 119k miles for 13 year old car and gently used then the transmission should be OK, just change all the fluids and filters in the drive chain.

If the current owner has had it for 8 years then there should be a bit of room for negotiation on the price based on the fact that it lacks any service history/needs work. It also has a few advisories on the mot so that again gives you leverage on the price. The advert really tells you nothing! It does look a clean car otherwise! There are lots of other Freelanders around the same year /price if your prepared to travel a bit!

you must drive it and see how it feels, what model is it ??

I've had my manual HSE (with HST bodykit) for just under 4 years, it was up for sale at £5700, timing belt not done, I got £500 off and paid £5200 when I advised owner it needed doing, it now has 166,000 miles and still pulls like a train.

I would be pretty happy to get £3400 for mine with pretty much full history, (trade in price is only about £1600) you should knock seller down to £2900 especially if it isn't an HSE, ie just a basic version. Thumbs Up 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

well, if you budget for £1k on servicing, belt etc,
then would you get anything better for the £4.400, it would have cost you?
Drive it and as said if all feels good then negotiate,
But don't forget inspect the underside wheel arches and sills for corrosion.
also IIRC there's been younger and less mileage motors on here with auto boxes problems,
good luck in your search. Thumbs Up

Can I just say a big thanks to all of you who replied and gave a lot to think about.
Very much appreciated.
Have spoken to the owner about a reduction of £500 but not willing to drop at present.
This forum reminds me do much similar to D2bc forum, . Recognise some names on here. Former D2 owners.
Still keeping the Disco 2.

Thanks again
All the best and keep safe

Here's another way of looking at it. I've had my 2012 auto sd4 HSE for 4 years from 40k to 100k purchased from main dealer with 3yr warranty and full inspection. Initially £22k now worth about £8. In the last year I've had a surprise rear engine oil seal, an MOT required track rod ends, and a voluntary cam belt change; all for the bargain price of £2,500.
But I love this car so much I'm going to keep it forever whatever the cost, as I'm optimistic that maintenance will be cheaper than depreciation on a newer car. Either way, pricy repairs don't bother me for the vehicle I love, having experienced in an earlier life three Range Rovers; one of which was kept for 11 years covering 330,000 miles, when servicing intervals were 6,000 miles! As for auto boxes; I did lots of construction work in West London in the early seventies and got absolutely fed up with manual gearboxes in heavy traffic and treated myself to my first auto in 1976; a Ford Capri sport. Since then I've had at least 30 cars including 7 LandRovers all with Auto, and the only one with trouble was a high mileage Passat estate.
The bottom line is if you like the vehicle and it's your colour and spec, at £3,400 with £1,000 reserved for immediate maintenance; it's a bargain. Any car 13 years old is a risk.

Plenty of ex D2BC, former D2 owners on here. I think because Fl2 was the best alternative to problematic newer offerings from LR. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
