Hi All

I am new to the forum and was wondering if any of you loyal FL2 drivers have had a similar issue to what I am experiencing.
Basically, it’s an intermittent issue by where the car will crawl along from the off and takes a while to kick in and start accelerating. My foot will be completely to the floor, but the car moves at a snail pace until it decides it wants to move. Not a good situation at roundabouts. Then another day I won’t have an issue at all. Any ideas on what this could be and what a solution could be would be greatly appreciated.

If the battery light comes on at the same time yes I’ve had that turning it off and back on sorts it out,I’ve found it happens when the battery is low.

I used to get that on mine if I was too quick putting it into gear as soon as it had started. Have you tried a hard reset? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

When was the fuel filter last changed? I would start with a new fuel filter (genuine Land Rover only) as I have come across these symptoms before and a new fuel filter has resolved it, and it's a cheap starting point.

I've just had to change my EGR valve as it was blocked giving the very same symptoms.

Pulling onto busy roundabouts was fun!

Mines the auto box, no DPF and 88k on the clock.

As yours is intermitent it may not be fully blocked so a Tera-clean may do it.
It was the Tera-clean agent in St Helens that told me mine was to far blocked.

How did the Terra-clean agent know the EGR was too far blocked without taking it all apart ? Or did you have a Terra Clean that didnt work ? Jules

I'm not sure, unless it was purely driving it from where I parked it into the garage.

Could have been when they started to pipe it up to do the clean. I know as part of myself trying to identify the problem I changed the Air Mass Sensor and when I removed the old one it had a coating of oil on it, which I thought was down to the exhaust fumes, looking for a way out!

But it was a different motor after it was done, I'd got to the point were I was limiting my journeys and using my bikes for runs when normally I'd have jumped in the car.

early SD4 tended to suffer from the hesitation from standing start, some got fixed, some didn't but there was no definitive answer to what caused it and more importantly what fixes it,

oddly enough my D4 was one of the first SDV6 255bhp 8 speed registered in September 2011, and it too suffered from the same hesitation as the early FL2 SD4. Its not uncommon on D4 either.

however mine now seems to have been fixed with an Alive remap, fingers crossed , but I don't think that works on 100% of cars with these symptoms

The symptom I had leading up to the EGR change was literally no power between 1 & 2000rpm.
It wasn't a hesitation or a stutter, it was no power! It completely curtailed any green laning I did, I couldn't tow. I had to pick my time carefully entering roundabouts or joining main roads.

The car has always had a minor hesitation which to me, is just the nature of the beast!
I've had the stutter/hiccup when my crank sensor went t!ts up.
So I would easily recognise those.

Mine, MY13 SD4 Auto (40K miles & F LR SH) has occasionally been slow to pick up of late - each time with a warm engine at tickover - pulling away from roundabouts/lights etc. Today, moving off on green traffic light, the car noticeably faltered, no power greater than tick-over and time enough to worry about being stranded the across the junction.

Power then picked up and for the rest of there and back it has behaved impeccably... should I panic now or wait until it’s late November service to get something fixed?

I had the same issue with my MY12 TD4. so while I had the front end on axle stands to do the annual service, I checked the turbo actuator linkage. It didn't look like it had ever been lubricated since new, so I gave each pivot point a good squirt with a dry moly aerosol spray, which is claimed to have a temperature range of -50°C to + 450°C.

Problem solved, no hesitation, instant pick up. I should have done this years ago!!

Mine did this recently on MY13 SD4 auto after a service. Turns out a non OEM fuel filter was fitted. Had an OEM one fitted afterwards and now the problem has gone. No more worries about pulling away. Freelander 2 XS 2013

HI All

Just want to say thanks to all who commented. I took car to local 4x4 centre and they agreed to try fuel filter first as its cheaper option. This seems to have fixed the issue although only drove about 20 miles so cannot be 100 % sure without a longer drive. I'll keep you posted .
