MY12 vs MY13 Changes

Researching my future purchase and wondering if there are sufficient reasons to go for a 2013/14 instead of the 2011/12 ? LR2 SD4 GS

When looking at FL2s it is very important that you check which options have been fitted.
The original owners of the FL2 seem to have been quite eager to specify additional options, which in my experience the secondhand dealers do not include in adverts.

It is best to study the Sales Brochures so that you know what you are looking for.

Don't be too afraid of the additional equipment, FL2s are reasonably reliable. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

When I bought my 2012 sd4 hse, one of the main features required was "memory seats" as my wife and I both use the car and we are 8" different heights mainly in the leg. But I understand that feature was replaced in the 2013 model with an electric handbrake...so a backward step in my opinion.

the MY2013 has revised headlights with DRLs but watch out for the projector headlights if they are halogen- they are poor. i would go for MY2013 with Xenons so will probably need to be HSE lux model unless you can find one with them fitted as optional extra - pretty rare. Metropolis spec also has Xenons as Std.
inside- facia design, switchgear , electronic parking brake and dockless key are all big improvements.

The Halogens on my 14 plate are fine - no problems at all (and I live up an unlit single track road) - I will say they are not as brilliant as the Bi-Xenons in my Honda (but those are simply superb) the Halogens on my FL2 are perfectly adequate IMHO. 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

Hi,
decide what spec you "Need" and what you would then "Like" Question

then buy on condition, history, price and it may be a 2011/12/13 or 14.

I dont think there is much of a reason to select one year over the others

I wanted Heated leather seats, cruise, towbar, heated Front screen and a dont mind up on miles.
ended up with 2013 GS one owner full history car with 110k manual TD4, it also had the front arm rests, only other thing I would have liked was the roof rails.

It has the EPB which works great and the daytime running lights, so the headlights may well be the Halogens Question
what ever they are, there good as well, it has stop/start as well and I even like that Thumbs Up

Other car I had in the running was a 2011 with Alcantara (very nice if clean and not worn) and roof rails similar history and miles but also same sort of price from a dealer and they would not move on the price Rolling Eyes

Go and look at as many as possible to see what you like.

Thumbs Up .
my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

i have had a previous succession of modern vehicles with xenon lights so i guess it is probably just what one is used to, but even the H4s halogens on my Defender gave out more light than the FL2 on Halogens ( admittedly they have Phillips upgrades ). Tried putting in HB3 Nightbreakers which did improve things but eventually coughed up for some Xenons - and these are great. Smile FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey

I have memory seats on my need list as I also have a petite wife, which seems to mean HSE regardless of model year ? LR2 SD4 GS

I would not limit yourself to those models - many FL2s were up-specced at purchase, you will likely find other models that have the memory seats also Thumbs Up

My Dynamic was considerably upgraded at purchase by its first owner - has everything that was on my shopping list - but memory seats were not something on my list at all - Mrs PRadd has her seat in exactly the same position I do which makes swapping vehicles a doddle - I guess I'm lucky Laughing

Good luck with the search Thumbs Up 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

My first FL2, an XS SD4 had memory seats, dipping mirrors, 19 inch (metro) wheels, tinted windows, tailgate spoiler, all on top of standard spec. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

My 2013 sd4 XS doesn't have memory seats (a minor annoyance), but on the other hand it had been specced with standard electric seats, tailgate spoiler, armrest pack and a rear cam as well as the front and rear parking sensors. So definitely check individual vehicles rather than just relying on the standard spec levels, as most FL2 buyers seem to have added multiple cost options from build. Persuasive dealer agents, perhaps?

Persuasive dealers quite likely - but as a buyer looking for a 1 owner FL2 earlier in the year the strategy worked well for me - got a Dynamic with all the extras I had on my list Thumbs Up 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic
