Thanks for the link. It's good to know that a 245/70r17 is possible, but I can't see if it sits flush with the wheel arch.

If your happy that these tyres are safe on 17" rims can you not buy a spare set of rims and swap them for the standard rims at mot time.

I'll try and explain myself a little better.

I wanted 17 inch rims but the car came with 18 inch & LR would not swap them. With 255/60R18 tyres they don't stick out past the rims so you will be ok with 245/70R17.

The ruler is vertical, the bottom of a 255/60R18 sticks out 10mm more than the body work, the rim at the bottom 23mm gap, rim at the top 43mm gap, the tyre at the top widest point 30mm gap, gap between ruler & bodywork is 10mm. Tyres are at 27psi so if they were pumped up to about 35psi there would be a bit less ballooning of the tyre, maybe 5mm less. The car has about 60L of petrol onboard & about 50kg of built in batteries, compressors & insulation etc which centre of gravity would be closer to the rear wheels.

If the ruler was up against the bodywork, so not quite vertical, the top of the tyre widest point would be about 20mm inside the rim.

Front is ok, top & bottom of tyre.




You want side wall so you can let the tyres down. Not the 18 inch 'poodle' rims I have, or worse, 19 inch 'extra poodle' rims! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I've seen a car on FL2OG UK that has 245s that seem to stick out beyond the wheel arches, but I need to know If he's fitted spacers or not.

From what I'm reading, the UK MOTs are far more lenient than the Spanish ones. I think you mentioned there's no MOT test in Oz?

There are lots of regulations here but no one seems to be checking.
