England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Zermatt Silver
car runs great then judders now and again quite severely

rarely used car since March, ¼ tank of diesel left in since last filled up (February), had a couple of short trips ie 6 or 7 miles, car goes perfectly well, then suddenly it jolts ferociously a few times, very like someone slamming the brakes on, no error messages no obvious signs of faults. . . .

QUESTION : - Am I being too optimistic in thinking its only because of lack of use, and perhaps a fresh tank of diesel and a good 50 mile trip would cure it.???

I have read about 2 possible causes, the EGR valve or the Crankshaft sensor, I have no great desire to rush out and get it fixed at present, but out of interest what would be a good source for a reasonable EGR valve price if that were the culprit , I see prices vary from maybe £50 - £250 . . . ( Censored ridiculous).

I have also read that if it is the EGR valve, it would probably have a very rough idle, which mine does not. 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

I’m no expert but I keep reading an original fuel filter sorts a lot of things out.

As a new CPS is relatively inexpensive & easy to change, I would change that first & go from there.

Intermittent CPS failure can feel as if the ignition is switched off & then on again quickly.

Also make sure the CPS electrical connection is clean. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

I get the judder when it's hot outside. Car is currently getting serviced so have asked that a genuine LR fuel filter is fitted. Probably not going to be warm enough for another 6 or 7 months to test the theory but it'll be there waiting 😂 Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

just completed a 30 mile test run, car runs perfectly up to 10 miles and engine at correct temp, then one sudden jolt, got another 15 miles down the road and 2 further jolts.

Probably hang on until MOT in November and get the experts at Durham 4x4 to investigate . . . Thumbs Up 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

Can you scan the OBD for fault codes ?

I'd put crankshaft sensor fairly high on the list - its relatively cheap and easy to replace too. Jules

I had the same kind of shudder on my 09 TD4. Turned out to be a faulty torque converter. Derek Hill

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be an air leak in the fuel line running from the fuel filter to the high pressure pump. Trying wiggling it around the fuel filter end with the engine running, I saw a line of air bubbles appear (part of the hose is clear) and then the engine ran rough. I suspect the o rings wear over time from the changing of the filter. I replaced the line (it’s got a fuel temp sensor on it) and I haven’t had a problem since.

just an update on this, the original problem cleared itself up, so I assume old fuel or lack of use was making for a spluttering performance, which seemed a logical idea to begin with . . . . Bow down 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

yes indeed the problem cleared itself back in November, then yesterday it re-appeared, if I take a stab at it being the crankshaft sensor, is it one of those parts that should most definitely be the land rover part, or is there a respectable cheaper one that will be just as good ?? 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -
